Dream Talk

So I've been having dreams that I'm having really deep, detailed conversations with people-- like, late-night one-on-one soul-bearing stuff. Some times it's with people I know and sometimes it's with people I don't. (When I was younger I had a lot of sex dreams, now I dream about talking to people- but that's for another day.)

So last night I had a long dream where I talked with Paris Hilton forever. And it wasn't me talking- it was mostly her talking about life in the spotlight, regrets she had, stuff like that. It was really interesting.

I remember when I used to have dreams about being intimate with a celebrity, it made me think about them differently-- like I'd find them more attractive (Hello, Ms. Hathaway). I feel kind of the same way about Paris Hilton- not that she's more attractive, but that I actually feel more empathy towards her. And even though I know it's just a dream, I can't help but feel like that. It's unsettling but cool at the same time.

In case you were wondering: her biggest regret is the sex-tape; she wishes she hadn't burned so many bridges with her family during her wilder phase; she doesn't look at prices when she shops, but knows she should and thinks this makes her like an alien to most people; and she once paid a model $5,000 to wax her eyebrow while they were on a flight somewhere.

What is your most recurring dream?

It's been years since I can remember a dream, let alone a recurring one. The results of years of child-induced sleep deprivation. But when I last had recurring dreams, they always seemed to involve me being able to levitate.

I don't have any recurring dreams lately, but in the past it has been flying for good recurring dreams and inescapable vampire/zombie hordes for recurring bad dreams. The vampire/zombie thing will still occasionally happen (once a year maybe), if I try to go to sleep immediately after watching a horror movie.

Scary Vacuum Cleaner coming to eat me (early childhood).
Hobbit scene: discovering self pre-wrapped, being caught and wrapped, or trying to evade being wrapped for dinner by Giant Spider. (Possibly an issue with Hot Blankets.)
Nuclear mushroom cloud(s) sighted. (Other people's gas? Hard to say.)
Tornado(es) sighted / arriving. (Snoring, other people's or own?)
Out of control insect life requires raining of hellfire and destruction. (RL stresses outta control; require tamping.)

Most of my recurring bad ones involve being put back in the Air Force at my present age and trying to pick up where I left off while playing catch-up trying to remember all the customs and courtesies stuff plus all my aircraft maintenance knowledge of 30 years ago...while wearing ill-fitting uniforms that are all wrong (wrong insignia, patches, rank, etc). I get that one about once every 6 months. last time I was trying to get a B-25 back in the air...and they are all during war-time...with Russia.

Is there a movie plot hiding there somewhere?

We're definitely in a period of recreating Russia as enemy #1. I am not sure why - yes, they're a problem, but are they The problem? Anyway, I remember scoffing at Mitt Romney's comments about Russia four years ago and now I'm like, please, please, give us Mitt again.

Oh Ron... you touched a nerve with me. I'm long past having dreams about being in high school/college and not knowing where my classes are and the semester's almost over and there's huge assignments due and tests to take. BUT in place of that, I will (about once a year) have a dream about waiting tables again. I don't know any of the procedures anymore. There's tables waiting. I have food to take out, but I can't even read the ticket to know what I have or where it goes. Those are terrible terrible dreams.

That's terrible. However, Ron says that you were the best waiter the world has ever known.

I rarely remember dreams. I found out, when I had sleep studies done several years ago, that it is probably because I don't actually get as much REM sleep as I should. (Not to mention as much deep, restorative sleep. I spend less than 5% of the night in stages 3 & 4 and less than 10% in REM, which is far below average. The sleep study people said it totally explains why 4 hours is pretty much the same as 8 for me. I don't get any more actual sleep in 8 hours...)

However, I do occasionally remember dreams. I don't think I've ever had ones that recurred though.
