Before my friend died in 2018, his wife talked about how much he liked this song, and how awful the lines "God it's so painful/Something that's so close/And still so far out of reach" had become. This song will mean that to me forever.

The song just came on a Sopranos episode we're watching. Fuck.

Still listening to my happy Christian song, Pneuma, and also Michelle Branch, Everywhere. Had missed some pretty cool things about that song, but enjoyed going back and hearing it again, along with other songs of hers. The phone wants me to know that people even cover her songs, who knew? I wish I liked her most recent album more because overall I think she's a great artist, but that last one felt a little flat comparatively. So yeah, a day of all that old-time religion, so far.

I honestly need to hear more, I've listened to the album just once and thought fine.

I'm working on enjoying Bon Iver, who really hit my anxiety -- and my jealousy -- but admit it's some really good stuff. When I can truly sit in it, and listen no judgements, it's some great stuff. This one in particular I keep coming back to:



Justin Vernon's soulful emotive voice and the experiments and mood involved, make me feel Bon Iver should be considered more modern "soul" music then they are. It often sounds to me in the same genre as Solange's "When I Get Home" but on wikipedia they share no similarities. One is listed as "chamber folk, experimental, folktronica" and the other 'R&B, jazz, psychedelic soul, funk, hip hop, new-age-trap." Or, maybe even more aptly, like Sampha, who gets genre'd as "electronic, alternative R&B, neo soul." Is there a rhyme or reason, other than the color of their skin, for not giving Bon Iver the soul label or the others a folktronica label? Probably not. Or maybe my ears don't pick up on the subtle but major differences.

Hellooooo Pete, as I am sick as a dog I happened to be in bed in time to turn on the Oscars, and any fan of Janelle Monae will want to see her performance although it is kind of sad and unfortunate that she's singing about the Oscars. Her talent is just phenomenal - one of these days she is going to have that huge pop hit and blow up even bigger.

In ther'py one thing we're working on is visualization + music meditations. I pick 5 relaxing scenes and 5 relaxing images and pair them together for 5 minutes.

I originally picked Philip Glass' "The Grid" but because I'm off subscriptions right now, I couldn't get it on my phone unless I bought the whole Koyaanisqatsi album. But luckilly, 10 years ago I bought Anthem 1 + 3 from Amazon, and forgot how good they are.

I was originally a fan of Anthem Part 3, but I think I now like Part 1 best, because it's such a beautiful slow-build, and has that awesome drone in there too. A great mix of spiritual, meditative, and inspiring AND was featured in Truman Show in the revolving door scene, where he finally realizes something's up!

Thank you for inadvertently solving a problem for me: once my daughter sees that the lead singer of a K-pop boy band is wearing exactly the same eyeshadow look she has been sporting lately, I think she will abandon it. This is a thing with many ladies at the moment. I don't mind I just hate that color. Use purple or something else.
