Episode 157 - Clowndemic

Mike and Aidan tackle some topics today, starting with the recent Clowndemic. This is followed by a story about stargazing and interesting science conversations between Mike and his kids. The best age for babies, Dissociative Identity Disorder, the upcoming Nerd Pride Deadpool 2017, the most famous scene from Fast Times at Ridgemont High, and how much Mike loves the music in Luke Cage. As a woman, that scene in Fast Times never stood out (didn't actually like it of memory serves) but you just explained to me why my younger brother rented that movie so often. He eventually bought it and I never understood why. And now I know why. Thanks!

So, according to the endless lectures I got from a friend in college, if they are rainbow they are sprinkles and if they are chocolate they are jimmies. I'm pretty sure it's racist.

As for Fast Times, I'm telling you, that scene made an indelible impression on most hetero males of my generation. In the age before the internet, when finding an old copy of Penthouse was a rare treat, seeing naked people in motion was the equivalent of spotting the Loch Ness monster. And, as porn (especially by modern standards), it's really lame. It's only about a minute long. You get to see one girl topless and it's intercut with shots of Judge Reinhold doing his thing. So unless you're really into humiliation, you have to ignore that part of it. And yet, to a teenager in 1985, it was the greatest 45 seconds of cinema ever made.

regarding "jimmies", a person at work was VERY messy and kept food in his desk. He never cleaned it out no matter how many people complained....until that one day.

"Someone" took pieces of shredded paper and bits of cotton balls and made an ersatz mouse nest in his center drawer, sprinkling "jimmies" around to look like mouse poop. The person was later asked for something that he kept in that particular drawer and he opened it to get it out, but then slowly closed it and said he must have misplaced the item.

He cleaned his desk that day.

When I say "late", I mean we got there exactly on time. I prefer to build in the extra five or ten minutes in case I have to wait on a train or get stuck behind slow moving farm equipment for ten miles or something.

Fortunately none of that happened, so we were on time.
