That is a good point. I don't mind if that is the reason. I do object to the "need to get out what I put into it" mentality when you're "rehoming" a pet. Maybe you just made a bad decision about a puppy and it's not bad if you pay something for that. Or maybe you knew all along you wanted to sell a puppy for a profit, so... Or you took it in just so you could put it on CL.

I haven't seen fit to spay my dog. However, I am such a great pet owner that I would do anything for my dog, including get rid of her, but only if you sign a contract "Under Penalty of Law" that you will never get rid of her yourself, and if you ever do give her away you will be "prosecuted".

Tee hee! The giraffe one looked totally ok to me for a full thirty seconds. I could never, ever venture into personal ads there for fear of hurting my mind. I once saw the best personal ad of all time and was only semi kidding about replying but my friend wisely prevented me. Probably would be married to someone else with different kids so it's great that things worked out. "Abeyance! Don't be skeptic! I am good man, have good dog." Perfect. Sold. I think the requirements were something like "looking for good woman". Great! Why make it complicated?

Yet here I find it on Craigslist with a half dozen of its cousins.

Two kinds of clowns, encountered every single time you run a search:

1) "This furniture is really expensive and valuable and in demand by dealers, so it is worth $----, way more than you'd normally pay!" So, why are you selling it here on Craigslist instead of getting the high value it's really worth from a real dealer?

2) "I bought this (furniture/dog) for $xxx and I want you to pay exactly what I paid because my own mistakes that have now added wear and tear to the item or psychologically damaged the dog are worth $0 of responsibility from moi."

There are water rings all over the top of my dresser but that's cool, I just put something on top to hide it and no problem! So you should be totally willing to pay full price for this dresser as if it weren't stained with water, because come on, that's what dresser cloths are for!


I need to be sure that my dog is going to a good home, so I want a rehoming fee of $300. Also, she's not spayed, so you'll have to pay for that too. You can get a new puppy from a specialty breeder for $500, but please don't let that stop you from paying more to get the dog I have screwed up mentally for you.

This set of shelves is very old indeed, and does not look very nice. It is missing some pieces, but i have solved that by purchasing baskets to fill in those areas. I would like you not only to pay me for the set of shelves, but also exactly what I paid new for the baskets. Yes, I understand you are buying the baskets used, from me, but see, I bought them new! So if you buy them for the price I paid at the store, then it's like I won't lose any money on that dumb decision at all! A win for everyone.

I need to get rid of my dog right away. She attacks my other dogs and I cannot afford the vet bills! Edit: How dare you people suggest she's a pit bull and that I'm being irresponsible by letting this vicious dog continue to harm my other dogs! Maybe do your research, ignoramuses: she's a rare specialty breed developed in part for dogfighting!

So here's the kind of monetizing you should feel bad about, Mike, if this is your ad.

I am browsing through desks for my kid. I click on one and to my surprise it is the EXACT desk I am presently sitting at, which I bought a few years ago from the main local furniture outlet because I needed a semi-attractive but simple, cheap computer desk. It is made of compressed manufactured wood, some kind of wood pulp pressed into a wood product, and then a veneer that has worn slowly away, with a dark faux walnut stain.

The ad, I shit you not, says "Solid Walnut Desk" and goes on from there with the straight up lie-telling. The asking price is significantly more than I paid for this desk brand new. So either this person is a complete fool who doesn't know what wood is, or more likely, a complete fraudster. I contemplated filing a complaint but by the time I looked at it again, ad was gone, perhaps already sold that fine solid walnut desk! Or someone else like me recovered from the quickly enough to flag it.

After that it was sort of anticlimatic to see another ad promising no scratches! and the first picture presents you with a giant obvious scratch right on the front of the desk. Sigh.

Craigslist combined with the election and all the violence in the news is making me depressed about humanity.

"LIKE NEW" does not include any of the following:
Large, dark stains.
Large, visible chips in the finish.
Visible moisture rings on the top.

These things DISQUALIFY your item from being considered "LIKE NEW".

"Bonded leather" is NOT the same thing as "leather".
