Awesome German Words
Awesome German Words
So I've become a little bit obsessed with the German idea of creating new words by jamming together a bunch of other words for a new idea. Like Treppenwitz- the word for when you think of a good thing you should have said, but after the opportunity for you to have said it.
So I want to use this post to list German words that we need to start using in the English vernacular because they are too good/weird/awesome.
I've searched for, but not found, a word to describe the event when you witness a movie or story that describes an injury to a person's body part, and you- in sympathy- grab that same body part on your own body. If this exists and anyone knows what it is- please tell me. I'm sure the translation will be "German for The Corsican Brothers" or something equally weird.

I'm fluent in 4 languages, know a little in 2 others, but all I speak is sarcasm.

Swastikaversöhnlichkeit
When a symbol used to support hate is accepted into polite society by the people it hurt.
"African-Americans may someday Swastikaversöhnlichkeit the Confederate flag, disarming it of its hateful power, until then, it's verboten."

Re: Awesome German Words
I think I was hungry for a brief moment a few weeks ago, so I'm probably 99% kummerspecht.
I'd like a word for when someone asks a question that I don't know the answer to, but then I do some quick research on wikipedia and then spout off the answer like I'm smart, when in fact I'm just the person who is reading the answer.
Ansagerantworten maybe? (answer announcer)
