Good morning, one and all!
Wash: "This is gonna get pretty interesting."
Mal: "Define interesting."
Wash: "Oh, God, oh, God, we're all gonna die?"

Re: Connor MacThread of the Clan MacThread
I got caught back up on sleep myself! This is great! Breakfast has been made! Eaten! Cat has been fed! Time to get to work!
"What are you going to do?"
"I'm going to roll an 8."
"I'm going to roll an 8."

Re: Connor MacThread of the Clan MacThread
His post is meaningless without samples and frankly I'm bitter because I wouldn't even begin to know how to make mousse. What if I just got chocolate instant pudding and whipped cream and Godiva liqueur and put them all together? What then?
Re: Connor MacThread of the Clan MacThread
Don't despair... you got this, Kiddo!
First, beat 4 egg yolks in small bowl with an electric mixer on high speed for about 3 minutes or until thick and lemon colored. Mix in 2 ounces of your liqueur. Gradually beat in 1/4 cup sugar.
Next, you wanna heat 1 cup heavy whipping cream in 2-quart saucepan over medium heat until hot--but don't boil it. This is the only hard part--nothing boils when you're making this mousse.
Now, gradually stir about half of the hot whipping cream into egg yolk mixture and then stir it back into hot cream in the saucepan. Cook it over low heat about 5 minutes, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens (remember: do not boil it). Stir in 8 ounces of semisweet baking chocolate until melted (I use Nestle Tollhouse chocolate chips). Dont forget to keep stirring. Cover and refrigerate about 2 hours, stirring occasionally, just until chilled.
Beat 1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream in chilled medium bowl with electric mixer on high speed until it's stiff. Fold the whipped cream into your chocolate mixture. When it looks ready, spoon it out into serving bowls and put them in the fridge until ready to serve.
You know, or... skip the fridge and serving bowls and just eat it all yourself. You've earned it!

Re: Connor MacThread of the Clan MacThread
Loving the mousse recipe but worried about my ability to heat and fold at the right temps. Do the eggs get cooked, essentially, as this occurs? This is like making a meringue I guess.
Re: Connor MacThread of the Clan MacThread
Ya got me! I've never made mousse. I just borrowed that off the internet. But there were plenty of instant pudding "easy mousse" recipes out there that claimed to only take 15-20 minutes. No reason you can't add booze to one of those.
