Good morning! Sorry I'm late, I slept in until 3:30 AM, then had to do a quick workout.

I was going to wake up at 3:00, but I ended up sleeping on the wrong side again, and couldn't hear when my alarm went off, so I didn't wake up until 3:30. Too bad I cannot get to the ear doctor until end of October, because that's the third time that has happened in the past month, including once at GenCon last week.

I had a cholesteatoma removed from my left ear about 7-8 years ago, which was caused in part by all of the airline travel I did for work. As a result, the hearing in that ear is bad even on a good day; not legally deaf, but 50-75% of the way there. But right now, that ear has been plugged up for a couple months, which pretty much takes it all the way to being legally deaf. So if I sleep on my right side, with my good ear buried in the pillow and only my bad ear exposed for hearing my alarm, I will not hear my alarm going off. At home, it's not bad, because my wife will smack me to wake me up if I don't turn the alarm off right away. But when I'm traveling and my wife's not there to smack me, I'll completely miss it and the alarm on my iPhone will turn off after a certain amount of time. What ends up waking me up is that I also use a white noise app on my phone to drown out the hotel noise, and the alarm shuts off that white noise app. So when I eventually turn to my other side and my good ear can hear again, I notice the LACK of white noise and that wakes me up.
