I know it is a ways off, since we just leveled up relatively recently, but I was just looking up some of the nifty spells that I get to choose from when I reach my next sorcerer level... I also figured it was about time we had one of these threads here on the new site...
I will be gaining 1 first level spell and one 3rd level spell, so here are the ones that I thought were appropriate for Kay to think about:
1st level:
Long Arm:
http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/l/long-arm
Gives me 10' reach for 6 minutes... XD
3rd Level:
FIRST CHOICE:
Storm Step: - looks AWESOME - Basically a line of sight teleport spell that deals 1D8/2 caster levels of electric damage to everone between you and where you land. Very similar to one of my bloodline power that I get much later...
http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/s/storm-step
Blast Barrier - Not sure about this one... might be useful when being being attacked, as long as we can all not be adjacent to the wall, since everyone adjacent to the wall gets hurt... I will need advice from someone who can interpret what it says better... XD
http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spell ... st-barrier
Sheet Lightning: Only 1 point of damage, but it at LEAST Dazzles everyone in the area! (and Dazes those who fail to save...)
http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spell ... -lightning
Distracting Cacophony: anti-spellcaster spell. Makes it harder to cast in the effected area.
http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spell ... -cacophony
Draconic Reservoir: Have to check with Darcs if I can specify the energy with my bloodline or if I can only use this as Electric or Sonic... Or if I can convert absorbed energy to electric or Sonic? that would be awesome... This would be a good Anti Dragon spell... if any MAGE out there wanted to, maybe BUY IT at a LARGE TOWN where we might be able to find such things...
http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spell ... -reservoir
Elemental Aura: the "STAY AWAY FROM ME" spell... hurts anyone adjacent...
http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spell ... ental-aura
Lightning Bolt: DUH! But I will get it for free at 7th level anyway... (when I will also get Tempest in a Teapot and be able to turn into a lightening elemental periodically...)
http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spell ... tning-bolt
Quell Energy: This is another that I have to find out if I would be able to use it for any type of energy... But if we were to face a Dragon... we might want to quell whatever type of energy it had, no? (This is another one that some mage out there might want to consider purchasing to put in their spellbook.... hmmm...)
http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/q/quell-energy
Spellsword: I don't currently have any staves or rods... but we're about to buy some magical items, so... I could put one inside my rapier or whatever more expensive, more deadly weapon I get and... BOOM! That could be fun!
http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/s/spellsword
Stunning Barrier, Greater: Basically the same as what I already have and hardly ever cast because it only lasts a few rounds, but this would give me +2 AC and last until it stunned CASTER LEVEL opponents, so it might be worth taking eventually...
http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spell ... ng-barrier
So, anyway... those are the main spells that seem appropriate for Kay at this time... Yes, she is mostly offensively oriented... A couple of area effect spells and a couple that cause inaction. Too bad there aren't more that stun the opponent...
What do you guys think? Does Storm Step sound like a good first one to take, knowing that I'll get Lightning Bolt for free at 7th level, or should I take Lightning Bolt and either have a wasted spell for one level until 8th or retrain at 7th when I get the free one?
Here are the basic stats of the two at 6th Level:
Storm Step:
Range: all in a straight line up to 40'
Damage: 3D8
Save: Reflex Halves
Additional: If the path includes a barrier, if the damage is enough it will break the barrier, otherwise you stop at the barrier. Moves ME to the opposite side of the enemy, giving us flanking if we don't have it already, or puts me in a good position to use Spring Attack from.
Lightning Bolt:
Range: All in straight line up to 120'
Damage: 7D6
Save: Reflex halves
Additional: Sets fire to any combustibles and damages objects in its path. May melt metals with low melting points. May break through barriers.
Any opinions?

Re: Character Development
If you're getting Lightning Bolt free later anyway and can't change later, I would wait and pick something next level that complements your other future options. The Storm Step sounds fabulous because of the movement options it offers, without wasting an opportunity to deal some damage while Kay gets into a more threatening position.
Distracting Cacophony is interesting as long as it doesn't interfere with our casters - I'm not sure how that works. However, I just added the Disruptive feat for Dwyn and plan to follow with Spellbreaker, which isn't all that powerful by itself, but combined with something like this it might start to cause actual problems for enemy spellcasters.
Now that we have a real cleric, plus Paladin and all y'all who can cast healing spells, I am less motivated to move Dwyn into another level of cleric. I really like the RP aspect of having added that, but there's too much else to do with Fighter advancement now. I am thinking about Improved Critical or other options that could expand the range of weapons Dwyn can use - kind of an insurance policy in case something happens to Lucille. Some feats would allow her to add the same enhancements to that whole class of weapons, rather than just the one.

Lucy is the cheapest buyable character in the game, as she can be unlocked by purchasing her with 7,000.

Re: Character Development
Well, I can retrain for free at even levels, but I get Lightning Bolt at 7th... I could spend time to do it at 7th, if we had time, but lately we haven't always had time and a person available to teach when we leveled...
I think that the one I might enjoy the most is the 1st level spell "Long Arm". Getting that 10' reach and being able to threaten and get sneak attacks from a safe distance is golden for a tender morsel like myself. (Especially since I'll only have a few uses per day for 3rd level spells and that one should last through almost any encounter we have.)

Re: Character Development
For my 5th level spells (I can only choose 2 when I hit 10) I was thinking of Teleport and Overland Flight. I think mobility seems to be key for us right now, and if I'm able to pick up a couple of 5th level scrolls in Magnimar when things quiet down, that would be great.
Other 5th level spells I'm considering:
Dominate Person
Hold Monster
Baleful Polymorph
Dismissal
Wall of Force
Wall of Stone
Cloudkill
Do any of those stand out to you guys as things you'd prefer we, as a group, had access to ?

Re: Character Development
Is this the place to talk about equipment, too? The mithral chain shirt looks tempting...but even more so would be +2 Darkleaf Leather armor. For 4,760 GP, my ac from armor and dexterity would be at +11, +1 from size, +1 from my ring of protection, and then possibly +2 if I get to make a full attack, oh and +1 from dodge. AC 26 isn't awful. But I also get +1 to attack from pushing up the Dex ceiling...
