How do you poop cubes?

The wombat has cubical poop. This is handy, because it uses it to mark its territory, and cubes don't roll away when you drop them on a mound or log or whatever. But I still have trouble imagining the process that lets its butt make cubes in the first place.

Side note: cubical means of or related to cubes. Cube shaped. Cubic.

Cubicle is the partitioned office space.

I never realized there was a difference, and I don't think I've ever used the first meaning until now, and I think I've always misspelled the second one when I have ever used it.

I mean, does it come out in a cube? Or does it come out round, and the wombat just shapes it afterwards? Where's the video evidence of a wombat pooping out a cube?

Scientists agree that it comes out that way, but I can find no video evidence yet.

Best guess... they have a large intestine whose structure and musculature shapes the poop into square logs, and ridges in the colon are actually able to mark out segments, because the fecal material moves so slowly. Also due to the very slow movement, they have some of the driest poop of any mammal, such that, by the time they expel it, it is too compact and firm to be reshaped much by the anus. So they end up pooping cubes with rounded edges and corners.
