Cribbage with Grandpas
Re: Cribbage with Grandpas
Muggins is killing me. The only one I ever get caught on is when I forget to claim Nobs. Even though it was only one pint he stole from me, as you can see- that point meant a win for him and a loss for me.
Re: Cribbage with Grandpas
Right? It doesn't happen often, but when it does it's almost always nobs.

Re: Cribbage with Grandpas
Just downloaded. I am a newbie at cribbage, having never played it before. Gonna see if I can figure it out. Most interesting aspect is figuring out what put in the crib...

My local walmart sells cribbage peg boards and cards for $10. I almost picked it up for the next time Mike visits.
Re: Cribbage with Grandpas
I can bring mine. I've taken it to game nights and it gets occasional use, but I've never actually used it myself.

Also, I have a new grandpa on hard difficulty. I made him just because I thought of the name Mr. Cribbs. Every time he wins, I imagine him saying, "They call me... MISTER Cribbs!"

Muggins the Merciless is KILLING me. And it's not the muggins- that's only made a difference in one or two games. It's that he plays perfectly every time. Bastard.

Slowly getting better. Getting up to medium difficulty.
I especially love the warm banters from grandpas. That is one big thing that kept drawing me back.

Re: Cribbage with Grandpas
I finally shut off conversation. It was getting in my way.
I find the random walk of the score to be fascinating. I keep about even with Mr. Cripps, but then I got to where I was about 6 games ahead of him. I was patting myself on the back for how good I was getting, and then outta nowhere, he's beat me 11 out of the last 12 games, and he's got a five game lead on me.
I figure after a couple hundred games I'll know how I actually stack up.

Re: Cribbage with Grandpas
So I've stopped playing. My problem is that there's no intermediate gap between the second hardest level (which I can beat almost every time) and the hardest level (which plays perfectly and means you have to play perfectly and just hope for lucky cards). So I kind of got tired of playing on the hardest level because he plays perfectly every single time.

You rang? Or no:
Lolllll the greatness of it.
Re: Cribbage with Grandpas
Apparently, skill level 5 is not the top end. Create your Grandpa with the name MRKNOWITALL and you get one of their "secret grandpas". His personality is "Knows it all" and underneath skill level it says: Genius mode activated. This grandpa makes no mistakes.
I'm still playing and I'm running about 40:60 against level 5 Mr. Cribbs. We'll see how much harder genius mode is.

Re: Cribbage with Grandpas
Whoa! Mr Knowitall just kibutzed on my hand. I pitched a queen and a 2 to my crib and he says, "I would have gone with the five of hearts and two of spades."
That's useful.

Re: Cribbage with Grandpas
Kyle, if you haven't tried playing against MRKNOWITALL, you have to.
Yes, I want to win, and I'm currently up on him 18 to 12, but that's not the important part. The important part is learning what cards to pass. I love getting a tricky hand and trying to figure it out. The challenge is to pass cards and have him NOT say anything. Because if there's a better play, he'll tell you. I still mess up a lot, and sometimes, I think his "improvements" are really trivial. But overall, I think my game has improved by leaps and bounds by playing against him.

That's great.
Re: Cribbage with Grandpas
So I played with MRKNOWITALL and I skunked him- and I thought, "Holy shit- he didn't say anything because I played perfectly!" Then I went and looked, and it's not giving me the "know it all" personality. It's just another grandpa.
