Re: Trump
And that Trump's personal assistant was escorted from the building on Monday, fired because he is under investigation for serious financial crimes.
The report says DHS is doing the investigating. Does DHS normally investigate financial crimes? I thought the FBI did.
Quite a day. And that's not even counting the House GOP ending the Russian investigation.

Re: Trump
Remember when HUD people said Carson had no idea that there were plans to spend $31,000 on a dining set for his office? Well
Seriously how many high ranking people in the administration are going to be caught spending lavishly on their own comfort?

Re: Trump
There was a time when you assumed that you couldn't always trust the narratives coming out of the White House or any other political entity like that. Things were being spun, some things weren't being disclosed, and so on. Now on pretty much a daily basis you have a direct conflict on factual statements and claims made within the administration that is all supposed to share the same political orientation. What is most tragic about these conflicts wherein somebody is obviously directly and intentionally lying: the president has such a bad track record of honesty that you almost always believe whoever's opinion is opposed to his, by default. So this represents not just a breakdown of trust, but a situation where you can just assume everything coming out of the White House is b******* and we don't know anything true anymore, unless someone in the administration chooses to risk the job by contradicting it directly.

And the why? For nearly everything?
Because Trump is Putin's bitch.

Re: Trump
I had completely dismissed the likelihood of it being some sort of sex-related blackmail, but then come to find out that he's allegedly been paying off people like Stormy Daniels. So maybe it's a simple as that? You wonder why that would cause such terrible and stupid things to be done, however, when financial malfeasance or other potentially criminal dirt seems like a far more explanatorily fertile possibility.

Re: Trump
Andrew McCabe with the heavy foreshadowing! Whoa. What is this indeed that we're all going to get to "see"? Why indeed is everybody scurrying around so upset about this investigation? Fuck a guy of that level of powers out of his pension just to be a dick, and I think this is what you can expect. As I was reading I got a real Jean Grey Phoenix moment. And the Stormy thing is just poetic justice icing on this cake. By the way do you think that that small Kardashian, you know the one with the lips in the makeup line, just named her baby Stormi because she's privy to inside information about what's happening there? LOL I hope so. I'm just looking at this from the perspective of a script writer who finds it hilarious fiction, but the so not funny thing is that this is our real now!

Re: Trump
Weeeelll, it's up to Republicans now. And I assume that we're fucked because they ain't doing shit to defend the democracy. Every last one of those craven bastards, with the possible exception of Graham, Flake, McCain, Snowed - who else do you think would turn on Trump if he fired Mueller? - is now in my opinion violating their oath of office. The fact that nobody's doing anything about McCabe probably constitutes a violation all by itself, but I would accept a lesser action in response like opening an investigation into the reasons for his firing. So let's say, if you oppose investigation, or wouldn't draw the line at firing the special counsel, you're in violation of your most basic oath as a member of Congress.
Honestly I don't expect that enough Republicans will punish Trump for any of this, including if he fired Mueller. So that means it's up to we the people. And I'm terrified that if this election becomes what it's shaping up to become, a referendum on whether we get to have a tyrant or president, we're going to end up with another Republican Congress, whether by hook or crook, wherein crook should be taken literally. There it is, never thought we'd see it in this lifetime.

Re: Trump
Right now, best thing to do is to force everyone to release all documentations on McCabe's firing. To include IG's reports.
Extremely unusual for reports not to be released to justify such firings, and especially since they could have let him go quietly.

Re: Trump
Ya, and they've got their people out making the rounds with arguments about why he needed to be fired for legitimate cause. If that's true it should be a very simple matter to document and move on from.
But really we're f*****. Only a few people in the Senate are giving any pushback that firing Mueller is an unacceptable line that can't be crossed. Even people who sometimes like to criticize Trump are being completely craven on this point. My cynical side says that Mueller's investigation risks exposing not only Trump but the national GOP in malfeasance of some sort, much like we're hearing that the Russian oligarchs funneled money through the NRA to help support their candidate. So I don't look to the legislative branch to save us, and I don't look to the Supreme Court to save us, and even if it does who's going to enforce their decision if it comes to that?
We are now at the place where our government and leaders are no longer accountable for their actions, even when those actions break the law or are extremely unethical. And when a whole group of leadership is above the law of a democracy you don't have a democracy anymore. Sure we're still having elections, and so is Russia. We're a democracy on their model now, on Turkey's model now. We already know that Trump and his family are profiting illegally on things like the DC Hotel, and deals they're striking because of their ability to pull levers of foreign policy and trade. The GOP gives not one toot about this, because it's already been happening since he took office and nobody's doing anything about it. If it's the will of the people to vote these corrupt leaders out, we sure haven't heard it yet, and I don't agree with all those who think a Blue Wave is coming in November. We have put the most venal and incompetent and vicious person in charge, and allowed him to appoint a bunch of other people like him in both ideas and low character. And now he's in a situation where the only way he can save his own hide and his kids' hide is to shut down any investigation into their wrongdoing and win continuously going forward, by exploiting the most basic human emotions of the totally hypocritical, morally rudderless people who support him. He can do whatever he damn well pleases as long as a significant chunk of the public supports him and thus gives him cover.
Democrats in Congress might be complaining about Trump but they don't have enough allies on the other side of the aisle to do anything about it even if he fired Mueller. And these Democrats are the worst of the worst right now - they just said goodbye to DACA and it is unbelievable what is going on in this country that isn't being reported in the media and nobody is talking about and no politician is going to solve. Democrats are convinced that people do not care enough about DACA for them to commit real political capital to solving it. People literally do not give a s*** that we promised all of these kids - our kids - who have never known another home that they could stay here. We legally promised them and made arrangements for them to report themselves and register so that they could stay legally, not illegally! Yet ICE is cracking down unabated and targeting the most vulnerable people, not the drug dealers and criminals. Today I understand we get the death penalty proposed for drug dealers so that we can be a democracy more like the Philippines under their tyrant. I don't think the will of the people is to change the situation, and even if it was the people we elect are going to do nothing about it. This is not a scenario in which I'm comfortable raising my kids anymore. I don't want to live in Turkey or Russia or the Philippines or in some other kind of fascist oligarchy. But I feel like this is my country and the people who have subverted it are the ones who need to get the f*** out.

Re: Trump
Yeah, I think if I'm him, I fire Mueller. Call their bluff. Otherwise the odds of something going wrong are high, and this way the only gamble is whether the GOP even cares. Unlikely. He just needs a war for cover so the firing seems less pressing than other stuff going on. We can't have this lingering investigation undermining us in a time of war, etc... Hey, if he can get the GOP to roll over after that, smooth sailing. What voters are going to stop him?

Don't think about Facebook and the removal of a competent adult mind from the NSC, to be replaced by a belligerent racist. Pay no attention to that woman behind the curtain, or the ongoing destruction of our planet, trade wars, and movement in the absolute wrong direction on every other serious policy matter. Instead, let's ban transgender troops! It gets the people going.

Trump sending the National Guard to the border is good for the acceleration of the complete fragmentation of American society! Can't wait!
