Yeah- so even though nothing changed in my income or my dependents, I ended up owing an additional 950 bucks this year over last year. I know I'm a lawyer, but you should know that my income if very firmly middle class for the size of my family. I think it had to do with the standard deduction being raised, but not raised enough for large families like mine- so I ended up paying more. Which is fine, right? Like- I can afford it and it didn't break the bank or anything. But it's a bit of sticker shock to expecting 800 bucks back and finding out you have to pay $93.

The thing that sticks in my craw is that the very rich got a very large tax decrease, and this was sold as something that would offer a mild tax reduction on people like me, at least for the next 2-4 years. But that wasn't true.
