[Game Riddler] A simple game

The rules:

It's like a game, two players, except that I'm playing all of you. We keep repeating games until you guys finally figure out what is going on.

In this particular scenario, we have numbers 1 through 9. You pick the number first, and I pick the number second, and we go back and forth until I say that you lose or I will. In this case, the number will not be replaced until a new game.

Is it clear? If it's clear, pick a number!

I imagine if I had said 1, I could have won, as that won the last game... But I do not know if I would be correct, as I was testing a different hypothesis.
