Pea Milk

I am currently drinking something called pea milk. Alone. Maybe because nobody else wants to chance drinking pea milk. So pea milk is a much healthier alternative to regular dairy milk. Does anyone drink it? I got the plain but it also comes in chocolate and vanilla varieties. My guess is that if you used the chocolate or vanilla with some yogurt and maybe a little bit of extra flavoring to make a smoothie, it would be like a milkshake. The plain milk drunk by itself in a glass is kind of gross, but not because it has a bad flavor - it's just that it has too much of some kind of flavor, maybe a good flavor, but more flavor than is needed. Also it's gross because it's too creamy and thick and I'm used to drinking flavorless low-fat milk. Now I am going to try it with Cheerios and will report back. Lord it is so much worse with Cheerios than it is plain that I had to spit the Cheerios out! Absolutely inedible. I was hoping pea milk might be the kind of thing I would eat with my oatmeal or Cheerios in the morning and maybe even throw a little into coffee. For health and weight loss! But maybe it's better unadulterated. Or, I bet it would make delicious pancakes, since you could put other flavors like cinnamon in, and the flavor you're getting from the stuff would be good in bakery-type items.

I feel bad that I'm having to give such bad news about pea milk, so let me give you some better news about broccoli tots. They're delicious. They are a healthier alternative any time you would want tater tots with a meal, or in a recipe, and the texture and consistency is even superior to a tater tot.

And while I'm in the mood to talk about healthy food, and efforts to cook things that other people in this house will eat that won't make me as fat as an ox - not that fat is bad but in my own particular case this unit of fat is not healthy for me - let me also recommend riced cauliflower. We were getting a brand of riced cauliflower that sucked. It was almost brownish and wet in the package before you would even open it the first time! Now we have a new brand, Farm day organic, which makes a much firmer and fresher version of riced cauliflower. I'm sure it could be put to great use in a baked dish, but I haven't tried that yet because I'm so pleased with the way it comes out when sauteed in a little bit of olive oil and garlic, with salt and pepper and a little bit of hot sauce or Cayenne sprinkled on. Absolutely delicious. Next time I have occasion to drink some white wine I'm going to try throwing some of that in. Oh and when the dish is done, sprinkle a little parmesan all over the top of it. Lovely.

I did a deal recently where I oven cooked cauliflower and drizzled honey mixed with pepper flakes on it afterwards. Good stuff.

I drink almond milk. I have removed all dairy products from my intake because while doing Whole30 it was discovered to be one of the things that wrecks my digestion. It is an acquired taste, but my mantra through my whole time doing it has been "It's just food" like it's just fuel you put in your car.

Whole 30 in a nutshell:
No Dairy
No Sugar , no artificial sweeteners
No Soy
No grains
Only tree nuts, no peanuts

We made one exception and that is any produce that we grow and is not processed (fresh corn, fresh peas from the garden)

Pretty much just shop on the outer aisle of the grocery store.
We have Ghee instead of butter
