Apparently Devin Nunes altered the memo, without telling anyone else on the committee--so the memo sent to the White House for approval of release is not the memo the committee agreed on.

Yes they say there are two versions. What do you think Devin Nunes is so f****** terrified of? That's the really puzzling thing - how is he in on this? It's one thing to try to score some brownie points by defending your masters, but he seems to be motivated with the special zeal of a man who wants to save his own hide and is at the point of recklessness where he'll do anything for it. Have you ever seen that much smoke without fire?

So Devin Nunes apparently played a role in the Trump transition, when a lot of the no-no activity may have occurred. That might explain why he has concerns for his personal liability in this affair that go beyond what the typical craven Republican in Congress is thinking.

How remarkable is it that the entire Republican party, most especially its leadership, is gung-ho to discredit the FBI? Would you have believed this in, say, 1985, 1995, 2005, 2015? Astounding. The FBI. A tool of liberal Democrats if ever there was one!

How remarkable is it that people like Comey are out there busting a seam over how sinfully guilty they obviously think all these people are? Wow. The same Comey who is still at rodent-level to some of us for his ridiculous public pronouncements about Hillary Clinton during the presidential race, that guy! Another tool of liberal socialism after a lifelong career as a registered Republican.

These are the same people who have screeched for years that if you aren't guilty, you don't have anything to hide when it comes to being surveilled. These people wrap themselves in the flag and proclaim their lockstep affinity with law enforcement and the military at every possible moment (even when they don't want to, you know, pay those people or give them health care), while trying to paint liberals as a bunch of immoral degenerates. Law & Order, by God, good citizens have nothing to hide, law enforcement is never biased and needs minimal oversight! All of a sudden, in ways normally only achievable by magic and mind-control, this whole mass of hypocrites wants to shut down an investigation! Nothing to see here! Bias! Persecution!

I have never been more interested in the outcome of this investigation, because now it seems not only like the most important people must have done something truly criminal that is an obvious deal-breaker for the ability to hold office, but it must implicate a HUGE chunk of the GOP as well. Wonder what that could be?

A) It's not scared, it's angry

B) Ya, a memo that WAS truly unimportant until a traitorous weasel decided it was the best way for him to inject his clearly fallacious and dangerously revelatory version of events. The board has already had this talk about finding appropriate ways to disseminate classified info.

C) Folks who dismiss, minimize or try to connect these events to some irrelevant behavior by characters whose very mention have become triggers for Murdoch's drones are part of the problem. Sadly, this is stuff that has already had serious consequences.

I'm just at a loss as to why they released this memo. Do you think that somebody in the FBI encouraged Nunes to think that releasing it would be devastating? So far the memo proves they were investigating the Trump campaign much earlier than had been officially acknowledged, and for reasons that remain unexplained! It also proves that they managed to get three renewals of their initial request for surveillance, which had to be based not only on more evidence than what we've seen in this supposed dossier, but probably also had to be based on evidence that they were finding something worth surveilling!!! This memo that's supposed to cast doubt actually makes everything look a lot worse for Trump. Is that what Nunes wanted or is he a profound idiot?

It is not about the actual content of the memo. All that matters is that they spin this as evidence of a conspiracy. The fact that it isn't makes no difference. If enough news outlets report that people are saying it is, then they can act like it is truth and it becomes the basis of dismissing any allegations against the administration.

It's not even JUST about the conspiracy theory crowd. The media made a huge deal out of the Comey memo, which is just one party in a meeting writing about it later. It's only evidence to the extent that you trust Comey's version of events buffered slightly by having a date stamp. I haven't read this memo yet, but I'm going to bet that a good chunk of the attacks made against THIS memo will equally apply to Comey's memo. So the Repbulicans can use THIS memo to discredit THAT memo.

Ask yourself what a petty 10 year old would do, and I think it explains a lot of D.C. politics.

The thing is, nothing in this memo needs attacking. It indicates the FBI had reason to investigate by July of 16, amassed more evidence than was in the dossier from some other sources, and continued to do so for months, given the renewals. It shows no reason for concern about bias.

Obviously many people have a vested interest in flat out lying, but they hardly needed a memo to do that publicly. We are past what Nixon did; Trump is actively obstructing justice right now by undermining his own selected people who lead the DoJ and FBI, and the Republican Congress is supporting him in it. November 2018 or our democracy permanently fucked, basically.

Our democracy is and has been "fucked" for quite some time. Even under Big O(a guy who I still genuinely like and approve of), the cracks we're widening. I think it just took Trump and Hillary to really rip the plaster down and expose the structural rot.
