Just wanted to bump this thread with lyrics from LFO's incredibly bad 'Summer Girls' (currently pulling a strong upset over Smash Mouth):

I personally find anything that is playing on radio stations now to be utterly unworthy. I have to find a "classics" station to find something remotely palatable.

Why do "musicians" today feel the need to remix a hit by other folks. Can they not create their own without perpetually grave-robbing the 80s

Yeah, the misogyny and violence bother me too, especially when I often have kid listeners around. However, the violence doesn't offend me because if that's real to people's lives in a way they didn't choose, why not address it? Perpetuating misogyny always feels like a deliberate choice to me, by contrast. Sometimes I listen to things like NWA and just lalalalala I can't hear you to the lyrics I don't like.

Pop songs I listen to like crazy because I have limited options in the car, where I do a lot of my radio listening. At home I can pick a CD or whatever. I broke my CD player in the car, appropriately enough, on the CD of 3278 musics. After a period of extensive replaying which created some level of amusement during warmer months when the windows were open, the CD player finally got tired and said a giant NO. So the cd is presently lodged in my car and requires more money than I'm willing to spend to remove. The humor in the situation is evident in hindsight.

Also Maroon 5 is awesome for the kind of thing that they are. I can understand why someone wouldn't like it but the guy behind the music is from Nebraska so there you go.

The poll seems to be going pretty well over there, since My Humps and Kid Rock are still going strong. I'm not sure why everyone hates that Soul Sister song; I am not a fan of it but my husband and kid are and it doesn't make me ill or anything, like those other ones do.

Most of those I had been made aware of at one point or another (for instance, on our old forums; and because of that scene in the Janis Joplin movie where the Kris Kristofferson character is a dick because he knows she blew his own lousy cover version of that song completely out of the water and into the farther space), but Girls Just Wanna Have Fun blew my mind completely. I didn't used to like the song but there's a major tl;dr as to why I started listening to it again, and once I did it continued to grow on me until now it is a favorite and I downloaded it for my kids. The lyrics should not be revolutionary in 2016 yet they are. I am blown away that another guy wrote those lyrics. I dimly recall the Joan Jett one only because she's talking about picking up a 17 year old, and I don't think she's 18 at the time, and I realized this was her way of turning the tables on a song that used to be about a teenage girl. 1000x improved.

I have a version I play of "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" that's sad and acoustic, song turns into a lament.

Happy that my top 4 have made it to the sweet 16.

Hey Soul Sister - annoying, overly earnest, but not terrible song. Nice uke. 3/10
The Reason - Seems what people hate here is artists being overly earnest. Bad, not terrible, 3/10.
Bad Day - overplayed, overly earnest, but again, not awful 3/10
Arms Wide Open - overly earnest, annoying, awful, fake. Throw it to the wolves. 1/10

I Don't Want to Miss A Thing - Never liked it, overplayed, but not awful for an overly earnest ballad. Good strings 4/10
Achy Breaky Heart - Never liked it, overplayed (but not anymore) I don't want to hear it, but it was catchy at the time. 2/10
Folow Me - back to overly earnest. Never liked it, but not awful 3/10
Florida Georgia Line and Nelly Cruise Remix - This is new to me so listened to the original first by mistake which itself was awful, cliched, over-produced, faux-earnest, but the added dance production ads a level. I still think Achy Breaky will win this bracket, but this is a worse song. 1/10

Nookie - Will stay with this as my pick. The rap: awful. The hey like a chump: catchy. The chorus: awful. But the music itself aint bad at all. Not their worst song at all. As an instrumental, it would be decent: 3/10.
Shoots and Ladders - Oh wow. Haven't heard this. It's, bad. Though a bit surprised this was one of their first singles. They did this, and people still liked them. And they they made less shitty songs. Good for them. 2/10
Photograph - ooof, bad song, bad singing, and, of course, overly earnest! 1/10
Butterfly - yuck, am I almost done listening to these songs? 3/10

My Humps - when a respected underground rap group sells out you still wouldn't have expected a song like this. 2/10
Who Let the Dogs Out - Never has a chorus so overwhelmed the rest of a song. Were the verses any good? I have no idea. I'm vaguely aware there were Caribbean instruments, but by the time my ears could concentrate again, in comes the chorus again. 1/10
Baby - song was listened to a billion times on YouTube yet this is my first listen. It's, uh, not great, but of all these songs, I'd probably be most up to dancing to this. 4/10
Summer Girls - "Shakespeare whole bunch of sonnets." Forgot about this song, dammit, guess it's back in my head for 15 more years. 2/10

I'm not going to lie. I assumed that that Florida Georgia song must be halfway decent simply because it featured Nelly. I finally felt compelled to listen to it to see whether that assumption was correct. It was not correct. But I still think My Humps and Arms Wide Open and Butterfly are worse. Those would be my top four. And by the way Nelly, you obviously have rather weird taste in music.
