Has their been anything in pop culture or media or anything that on paper SHOULD Be right up your ally or in your wheelhouse but you just can't get into it?
For me two things stand out, first The Expanse, a SyFy show about colonies, politics, cool concepts, good acting, Tom Jane as a outer space detective, but for the life of me I CAN"T get into it. Watched all of season one and and into season two before admitting to myself that it's not working for me.
Books, READY PLAYER ONE should of been a exciting nostalgic trip into the 80s but I found it a trite exercise in pandering and "member berries"

Doctor Who. It gets excused as British humor...but it's really just shitty British humor, the effects aren't ironically bad...they're just fucking bad, and they somehow manage to cast quality actors into a role that seems to require them to basically not act?
Game of Thrones/A Song of Fire and Ice - This is one of the weirdest experiences I've had when reading. You somehow managed to take a fellow who tries to be inclusive among the community of fiction authors/readers, get him to write some of the least inclusive fiction found, largely write awful events repeated over and over again in an unrelenting nature with little to no upside, and then mix in the pedantic style of Robert Jordan. I'm not even going to touch the show, because two seasons made it very clear it wasn't for me.
Spider-Man - Everything about this character is pretty much awful. In every incarnation and medium. Forever. And ever.
READY PLAYER ONE was always best suited to being a film, rather than a book. Same goes for Armada, and most of Ernie's material to date.
Alan Moore - Most of his career. League's Century is probably an exception, but that's mostly because I miss drugs.

Re: Something you SHOULD be into but just can't
Oh, I forgot the gaming ones.
In theory, I should love World of Darkness with the focus on narrative style. Instead...not so much. I always ended up finding the books great for source material and terrible for an actual system to play.
Dragonlance / Krynn - Yeah, there's just everything wrong with this. When I read the Death Gate cycle from Hickman and Weis, it was really hard for me to believe these were the same formative folks behind Krynn. For all the Elminster/Drizzt jokes, the Realms managed to avoid creating a world of walking stereotypes better than Dragonlance. And that is most definitely not a compliment.
MMOs - Crunchy, time-consuming games focused on minutiae. I should absolutely love these. It's sort of like the trifecta for me. And I've done my time with WoW, tried the newer style with the Old Republic, even went for the less raid-y Secret World. Inevitably, they never manage to sink their hooks into me. I'd rather just go back and play Arcanum. (ELEPHANT GUN DESTROYS YOU ALL!)

I hear you on Doctor Who. I've tried. David Tennant is cute. It bores me. I feel bad.
I should probably enjoy the Beatles more than I do, but they're always merely okay. No passion for it. No thrills. No profundity.
Don't think Game of Thrones counts because ain't nobody should be enjoying that, yet everyone does. Seriously now. The author is a total psycho. I don't want to travel in his mental world. The show is offensive.

Re: Something you SHOULD be into but just can't
To be fair, that was analysis by a Cracked writer specifically talking about things she finds overrated. I was trying to point out the self service in her points about musical simplicity, but I forgot to show the steps in my head. I like several Beatles songs, but that breakdown gave me another way to look at it. So I can see why some people don't like their music.
But Billy Joel's Angry Young Man is objectively better than the Beatles Revolution at covering the same topic. That's just science.
Still can't think of anything I'm not "into". I seem to find something to latch on with most things, even if my interest is very passing.

Re: Something you SHOULD be into but just can't
The Game of Thrones books. Pretty much everyone has touched on why I don't care for them. One of the other things is I just don't like how pretentious Martin is with the whole "realism" thing. Like everytime I read an interview or watch a panel where he's talking about his own genius, I just wanna fucking puke. "The middle ages were a very patriarchial society, blah blah..to highlight this, I created two female main characters who are basically walking sterotypes: the tomboy who wants to be a warrior woman but no one will allow her to be, and the pretty pretty princess who thinks the world is all flowery and naive". Way to fuckin' nail the complexities of the middle-ages and it's gender relations, buddy. I mean, let's ignore just how many times women were active participants in the wars*, the various amounts of social power and freedom medieval women had that would be eroded away through-out the early modern period(ever wonder why the Catholic church seemed to get real fuckin' anti-womany? Well, let's just say that it's tied up in french politics, and religious women who were not beholding to male church leaders were a BIG fuckin' deal at that specific time. *cough* Joan of Arc, for one[but hardly unique]). But hey, yeah man, tell me about how you're sooooo much smart than Tolkein. Atleast J.R.R. never portrayed women in such a useless and negative fashion.
The HBO series was more or less just cheap greasy fare for me. I liked certain characters, and that kept me coming back to the show.
I'm not into Starcraft, which you'd think considering my love of the Warhammer 40,000 universe and science fiction and strategy games, I'd love the series, but I really haven't cared about it for a long time.
I'm not really into the Beatles, either. I only have a handful of their songs I explicitly enjoy, and the other day I found out one of those was a Wings song, so.. go figure.

You shouldn't EVEN bother being into the GoT books; they are worse as a kind of torment. You keep hoping for something to redeem it all - your investment, so to speak. Dude is messed up and that's as good as it gets. I do not want to inhabit his imaginary world for the same reasons I dislike porn in general: grim, limited, comically pathetic, and with the whiff of abuse and exploitation around every corner.
