Things Jeff LOVES
Things Jeff LOVES
In the realm of media and culture, there are many things that Jeff hates. Those things are easy to name. There are about half as many things as that that Jeff likes, but only grudgingly. These things have merit, but only after you look past their inherent flaws.
There's a near infinity of things Jeff doesn't know about and/or doesn't care about.
Far rarer are those very few things that Jeff LOVES without shame or reservation.
How many of those things can you name?
[Jeff, you don't get to play yet, obviously, but it would be awesome if you could verify or deny people's guesses.]
Current Score
Mike - 3 points
Phoebe - 7.5 points
Eliahad - (-1) points
Kyle - 12.25 points
Tahlvin - 0.25 points
Stan - 5 points

I'm going to start the guessing with...
The world of Shadowrun.

Re: Things Jeff LOVES
To be super clear on this: I am in no way disparaging Jeff. He is a natural pessimist and I am not. I love all sorts of stuff and I'm very free with the superlatives. If Jeff puts a stamp of approval on something, it is a much rarer thing, and one rightly should wonder what sorts of things merit that special treatment.

Umm a nice chicken parmesan dish, Michael Fassbender, Mike Patton (sorry, he's mine), and Nathan Fillion, Firefly, Dr. Horrible's Sing-along Blog, Emma Thompson, the Red Hot Chili Peppers. So far so good? The Avengers.

Clearly he loves Rogue One so much that he wants to marry it and have its babies.
I also think he loves smoking tobacco, but also hates it.
Shot in the dark here: a Gordon Ramsay show-- but I'm not sure which one.

Re: Things Jeff LOVES
I bet Jeff loves cats. They grok each other.
Jeff likes vaping better than smoking but still has a complicated relationship with it that's not pure love.
Jeff loves recalling the historical details of small social groups of which he is/was a part of.
Jeff probably loves both Neal Stephenson and Warren Ellis more than is healthy. He used to love Alan Moore but, once he noticed the injected thoughts of a creepy old pervert in every work, his loved is marred and they'll never again had once they did.
Jeff loves being superior to emo Spidey fans and pointing out how juvenile they are.

I think some of you are getting Jeff mixed up with Daki. I think Jeff thinks that Stephenson and Spider Jerusalem and all that are fine- but they're flawed.

Re: Things Jeff LOVES
Shadowrun - Yes, though not as much lately. 1 point.
Michael Fassbender - Double yes. 2 points.
Nathan Fillion - Big yes. 1.5 points.
Firefly - Yes. 1 point.
Dr. Horrible - Sure. 0.5 points.
Mike Patton and Emma Thompson - Sure? Little confused there. Those were strangely specific. 0.5 points total, not each.
RHCP - With John motherfucking Frusciante, yes. Without, no. No specificity, points cancel out.
The Avengers - I'll assume MCU version, and the first one. Huge yes. 1.75 points.
Chicken Parm - Uh, yeah, it's cool. 0.25 points.
Suicide Squad - I will cut you, string player. -1 point.
Rogue One - Solid yes. 1.5 points.
Smoking tobacco - You're still tricky, Tex. -1 points for currently, 3 points for a serious lifetime of love. 2 points.
Gordon Ramsay show - 0.25 points until specified.
The F Word - Meh. 0.25 points.
Cats - Keep them all, and keep them all away from me, please and thank you. -0.5 points.
Vaping - 2 points. Because breathing is really nice. And cheaper is NICE.
Small historical details - Oh, you're getting on the right track now. 2 points.
Neal Stephenson - Snow Crash and Zodiac, 1 point. Diamond Age and Cryptonomicon, 2 points. Everything else after that, -1 point.
Warren Ellis - Nope. While I've loved some of his projects, there were a few Bulldrekkers who tried without end to convince me he was the greatest thing in all of history. So, out of pure spite, that's a fuck no. -1.5 points.
Spider Jerusalem - Transmet can die in a fire. Then it can be set on fire again, and used to feed at least six more fires. See above. -3 points.
Pina Coladas - Coconuts make Jeffey want to hurt people who make anything with this. They may also potentially send Jeffy to the croaker. -2 points.
Getting caught in the rain - I've got a growing proclivity as I get older to enjoy the occasional time outdoors, enjoying the rain. For at least three minutes or so. If we go past five, I start looking for a keyboard. 1 point.
Not being Daki - 1.5 points.
Wet clothes - Ooohh, yeah. Fat Man. This is no bueno. 1 point.
Firefly (again) - It's not overhyped. Browncoats are fanatics, so signal to noise ratio is strong. Make the mistake of asking me to break down Heat scene by scene sometime. It's about the same. -2 points for a repeat.
Wonder Woman - Somebody's reading Facebook, I see. 3 points for cleverness.
Duergar - 5 points. THEY'RE GODDAMN TERRIFYING, EVIL, DWARVES DEVOTED TO TOIL, PROGRESS, AND DISREGARDING INDIVIDUAL VALUE. But they're still not my current Pathfinder favorite...keep guessing.
Frankie - 7 points. Methuselah is one of the Wonders of the Worlds, and one I'm even willing to contemplate boarding a plane for.
I'm not keeping score, but I did divide up posts as I could. We should totally make this a game. The box office seller format would work well there. Just so long as I can do Whose Line type scoring.

Thank you, Jeff. That post made all of this worthwhile. I don't even mind that I lost points on Pina Coladas.
