Tom Cruise's Biggest Movies AfI
Tom Cruise's Biggest Movies AfI
The Adjusted for Inflation Bureau is stolen from Poorpete (who first had the idea to make this a game here), who stole it from Doug Benson at Doug Loves Movies (which everyone should be listening to). Here's the rules:
1- Post up with a movie of Tom Cruise that you think has the highest domestic box office gross adjusted for inflation. Thus, even though the new Star Wars movie is the highest grossing domestic earner, if we adjust for inflation, the title actually goes to Gone With the Wind.
2- After you make a post- you can only guess again AFTER I HAVE TOLD YOU IF YOU ARE RIGHT AND HAVE AWARDED POINTS. Thus, if you make a guess- please don't guess again until I've acknowledged your guess.
3- Your guess must be done off the top of your head. No research. No googling. No referring to Imdb. Obviously, no referring to Box Office Mojo. Just use your brain.
4- This game is on the honor's system. But if you cheat, please understand that you're just ruining the game for everyone. There's nothing at stake. We're just all trying to have fun.
5- Points are awarded only for the top 20 movies of Tom Cruise, in reverse order of their place on the list. Thus, 1 point for the 20th movie. 20 points for the top movie.
I will try to periodically update this first post with all the guesses, points awarded and standings.

1- Top Gun
2- Rain Man
3- Mission Impossible
4- Mission Impossible 2

Re: Tom Cruise's Biggest Movies AfI
Is this theatrical run only or total revenue?
I'll start off: Top Gun.

Re: Tom Cruise's Biggest Movies AfI
When Doug plays it, it is U.S. theatrical run only based on the Adjusted for Inflation numbers at BoxOfficeMojo.
It does include re-releases. And I personally suspect that this throws the numbers off. Snow White has had numerous re-releases, but are the numbers adjusted for inflation based on the year of each re-release, or do they simply take the grand total and adjust it based on the year of original release? I suspect the latter, because movies with much later re-releases seem to have numbers far above what I would have suspected. But I have nothing to base this on other than my own amateur estimations.

Re: Tom Cruise's Biggest Movies AfI
It's domestic box office adjusted for inflation according to box office mojo. So that means theatrical and- as Mike suggests- includes re-releases. I'm going to wait until this evening to give scores to give other people a chance to jump in- so don't guess again yet, Mike and Stan.

Re: Tom Cruise's Biggest Movies AfI
Huh... I honestly didnt think Rain Man would've been that high, but these things generally end up with the older movies being higher on the list almost by default.
