I ran across this post on Tumblr last night and thought it was brilliant. It is a comic that is called by, of all people, Stephen King. (Who knew that he did comics? I wonder if he draws or if someone drew this from an essay he wrote?) In any case, it is about putting your work and the rest of your life in perspective... (And a little bit about not being a raging drunk...)
(EDIT: Actually, when I look at it more closely, it is from the webcomic Zen Pencils, which is on Lezhin. So it is a professional comic artist who made it, probably from an essay. The link appears to be to the blog by the author though and not the Lezhin site. I hadn't clicked through, but read it on Tumblr...)

Cool. I've got the big desk, but it's in the corner of a small basement room with no windows.
Wash: "This is gonna get pretty interesting."
Mal: "Define interesting."
Wash: "Oh, God, oh, God, we're all gonna die?"

Re: Putting things into perspective
I used to have a desk... before my basement flooded... It was kind of off to the side in the basement. Now I have a table at the end of the room. Eventually I will have a "study" or "office" in the upstairs part of the house with a desk... But that room needs to have the floor refinished first... But it will be in the corner in that room, it's just a small room, so it will probably still dominate the room...

Re: Putting things into perspective
I've been reduced to zero desk, so I guess I'm living right?
Hope so, but I doubt the formula is quite that exact.

As someone who rides the life/work balance like it's a catamaran in a hurricane, the Desk is a useful barometer, but it's not the problem in itself. Sure, it shouldn't be the center of anything, that's just ego, but you need a stable space for your stuff, otherwise the time it costs you to constantly pick up and move your 'work' is enough to throw that balance off.
