I played lots of Stratego and Risk as a kid. Axis and Allies was the go-to in college. I've tried a bunch of others, but most are simply too long for me, even if I enjoy them.

I highly recommend Small World. Imagine Risk, but you get some special powers, and the world is... small. You will play as at least two or three different factions over the course of the game as new people move in and old ones die out and get crowded out. Really fun. Games take about 90 minutes. Less maybe.

Warning though... it's intimidating to start with, because of the added complexity and the sheer number of markers and tokens involved. But it's worth it.

Since the first post, I have had only one goal. Some may be surprised to learn that this goal was not to win the thread. I could care less. Indeed, my goal was much more narrowly focused and based in an injury far more personal. You see, when we were kids, I decided that I was soft... lazy... undisciplined. So I told myself that I need to hone my abilities. Always be ready for any attack. Like Daniel-san in the Karate Kid, I wanted to just instinctively throw out a "Wax Off" when someone tried to kick me. So, having the utmost trust in my best friend-- Mike-- I confided this in him. I remember it like it was yesterday. We were standing at the top of the stairs in the three story barracks in Plattsburg. So I said to him, "Listen. I need to hone my skills. So once a day, and only once a day, I want to you to just punch me as hard as you can. Whether I see it coming or not. Just attack me. So this will hone my defensive skills. Can you do this for me, best and trusted friend?" Instead of responding, Mike punched me in the stomach as hard as he could. Not yet having received a positive response to my query, this action was completely out of bounds. Moreover, it caught me off guard and knocked the wind out of me. Bad. And on that day-- that very day when I was 12 years old-- I swore I would have my revenge. Maybe not in a year, maybe not in a decade, but I would have my revenge. Then I saw this thread. The "Connor MacThread of the Clan McThread" thread, and I knew. I just knew. This is it. This is my revenge. So I plotted and was diligent. I told myself- I will make sure that I am FUCKING RELENTLESS in this thread until Mike decides he can't take it anymore.

And he quits.

And that day is today.

I have won.

I have gotten my revenge.

I'm quitting this thread now.
