Anna: you'll have Owl's Wisdom in your big ole bag o' spellbooks with all those level 6 and lower spells, right? That can give me a +4 to my Wisdom, taking it from 13 to 17... giving me the Wisdom requirement at least, to cast the spell. I could also use a spell to boost my Charisma if you have one... that would increase my Use Magical Device score... Then I could cast the Resurrection spell on Sam, who can probably cast the True Resurrection with minimal Wisdom enhancement, I hope... (We don't have her sheet...)

If Hal has taken ranks in Use Magical Device, he is probably the better choice, since he is sure to have a higher WIS score than any of the rest of the surviving party... Of course, two of the highest WIS scores in the party are the ones who died...

You don't need to worry about the Wisdom--just the level of the spell. If you can meet the DC for faking the level, then you've already met the DC for faking the Wisdom.

Yes, you can use Eagle's Splendor to boost your Charisma for an additional +2, and Dothan can use bardsong for an additional +4. So grand total, that puts Kay at +15, which is what Dothan already has. You cannot cast True Resurrection at all, and you have a 25% chance of destroying the Resurrection scroll if you try to use it.**

If Anna has something better than a +9 naturally, then we can give her the Eagle's Splendor + Bardsong and see how we like those odds.

Otherwise, we carry bodies to town and see if we can pay a specialist a nominal fee to cast the spells off the scrolls for us.



**Math: You can cast Resurrection from the scroll on a roll of 18-20. (DC 33, +15 modifier). You destroy the scroll on a 1. Anything else, you can reroll and try again. 3 chances to succeed. 1 chance to fail. 25% of losing the scroll forever.

Looking at her character sheet, Anna appears to have a +24 for Use Magical Device, so if the Wisdom Score doesn't matter for the casting, she's our girl! Boost that Charisma a bit, unless she already has a Charisma boost from an item, have Dothan sing a song, and she should have a pretty decent chance of getting Sam back in order to cast the other spell...

Question: why wouldn't we be able to use the True Res scroll?

I'm still just horrified we had two people die, you know? Very upsetting! And especially for the two of you, but horrible for all.

I am sitting around with roughly 16,ooo GP that can be put toward the cause of purchasing a true resurrection rather than a regular for someone, or for doing whatever else might be needed to make them whole again later.

I'm worried that the more people who die, the more likely it is that other people will die, ya know? Luckily Sam and Eldthor were not front line fighters and together do not represent a huge chunk of our normal damage-dealing power, so hopefully six of us remaining is enough to take on three bad wizards and a peacock (I don't know why it's just sitting there but I assume it can kill).

And we don't know how to get back out of here, or even where we are relative to the "real" world, so it's not like we can just decide to retreat and escape.

Also, it turns out that Restoration restores levels lost from dying at a rate of one lost level restored per week, so even the levels lost aren't a huge impediment.

It is also worth noting that we have a third raise dead option, which would be using the Scroll Of Limited Wish to cast Raise Dead. If Darcs will handwave it, we likely have enough diamond dust to equal the gem needed to cast Raise Dead.

So:

Raise Dead: -2 level penalty
Resurrection: -1 level penalty
True Resurrection: No penalty

If the UMD thing works out, Anna can almost definitely use the scrolls. She has a trait that lets her use her INT bonus for UMD instead of her CHA, so Charisma boosting won't help a ton.

I think we got this... we just need to make it through the 19th without anyone ELSE dying.

Aw snap... if Restoration can fix the negative levels (and it can), then it's all a matter of diamond dust and a few days.

Raise dead+2 Restorations: 9th level cleric. 7,000gp. 1 week.
Resurrection+1 Restoration: 13th level cleric. 11,000gp. 1 day.
True Resurrection: 17th level cleric. 25,000gp. 1 day.

Seems like cheating. Unless you have a 20 year old corpse, I suppose.

And I don't think that the diamond dust is that prohibitive. Anna bought a bunch for casting Stoneskin and I'm pretty sure Sam bought some for casting restorations, so I think we'll be okay there.

Anna would prefer to not use the limited wish scroll if we can avoid it... it seems like it could be a useful bit of kit to hold onto, unless things continue apace and we end up needing a third res.
