I played D&D (1st edition) for several years before trying anything else. My first non-D&D game was Gamma World 1st edition, followed quickly by Traveller and Champions.

Villains & Vigilantes?

I stuck with TSR at first and played a little Star Frontiers. Then moved on to some Twilight 2000. But I've generally stuck with D&D or D20-based games: Star Wars, D20 Modern, HackMaster, Pathfinder. I've got the Numenera game from Monte Cook, but haven't had a chance to finish reading through it, let alone play it yet.

The game from that time that I remember most fondly is Gangbusters--which is coming back.

Wait! Mike was WRONG!
I went to go find an article I wrote for Animalball where I reviewed Villains & Vigilantes, and right there in the article, I point out that my 2nd roleplaying game was Star Frontiers. So close. V&V was my third.

I have never played an RPG that wasnt online or in a video game. I do love them however. It is my second favorite type of game, behind Strategy games (which i guess an RPG could be)

Started with Call of Cthulu. Branched out to Elric and Shadowrun pretty early.

I'm fairly sure that my first Non-D&D RPG was Rifts. Something about that has still stuck with me... was great fun.
Along the way, I've also played in or GMed Star Wars, Shadowrun, Shattered Worlds (a GURPS-like homebrew a buddy of mine ran in college), and Call of Cthulu.
I had a couple of buddies in high school who were big into all of the White Wolf games, but I never tried any of them.

I'm not 100% sure on the timing, but my first non-D&D role-play was either Rifts ,the Marvel Super Heroes Game, or Star Wars (the d6 version).

Pretty sure it was GURPS-something. I was a pirate lady. She was awesome. I kept threatening to LARP it up with that one but never did, alas.

I think Gamma World was after Dungeons and Dragons. Man, I loved that box of insanity.

Uh, probably DC Superheroes (or whatever it was called) or James Bond RPG. We played Aftermath around that same time, but I think I was running Bond and the DC game before I ever played in anyone's non-D&D game.

For me it was probably RuneQuest in my high school years. In college, I played a LOT of non D&D games in addition to lots of D&D, from Traveler to Star Trek to Wizards Realm and more...
