Best Selling Books of All Time
Here's the rules:
1- Post up with a book that you think has the highest sales of all time.
2- After you make a post- you can only guess again AFTER I HAVE TOLD YOU IF YOU ARE RIGHT AND HAVE AWARDED POINTS. Thus, if you make a guess- please don't guess again until I've acknowledged your guess.
3- Your guess must be done off the top of your head. No research. No googling. No referring to Wiki. Just use your brain. This game is on the honor's system. But if you cheat, please understand that you're just ruining the game for everyone. There's nothing at stake. We're just all trying to have fun.
4- Points are awarded only for the top 25 books, in reverse order of their place on the list. Thus, 1 point for the 25th book. 25 points for the top book.
5- This is taken from wikipedia and in the event of a tie, I used the order from their list.
I will try to periodically update this first post with all the guesses, points awarded and standings.

Re: Best Selling Books of All Time
A few important notes: Series are split up by individual books, unless wiki decided to consider a series one book.
Be careful guessing anything that is in the public domain. The numbers for those are too hard to track given the many different publications.
No religious text or bibles.

The Bible.

Does"Dianetics" count as a religious text? -- I assume it still has it's copyright.

Re: Best Selling Books of All Time
Couple points of clarification:
For religious text I just meant no Bible or Quran, both have which sold in the billions.
Take the "public domain" comment with a grain of salt. I just meant that this list isn't full of books from 1600s and earlier that have been in circulation forever. Wikipedia just mentions some are harder to track than others (and specifically pointed out Count of Monte Cristo, which doesn't make it on the list) and that the list is incomplete.
All novels are well known save for two that are probably going to be hard to guess.
First round:
Kyle - Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone - #5 at 107m (21 points)
Zen - Dune - Makes the wiki page but falls short at 20m
Stan - Time Machine - Doesn't make the wiki page
Eli - Twilight - Makes the wiki page but falls short at 30m
Tahvlin - Bible -
Pete - Dianetics - Falls short of the list at 20m

Fine. Penalize me for not reading the directions. Even though that comment wasn't in the initial post, just an addendum post lower in the thread. Okay, it was in the second post, but still!

Re: Best Selling Books of All Time
Agatha Christie has to have a book on the list as she's the best selling mystery writer.
