Rules: Guess the Friday through Sunday domestic gross (as reported in the actuals from Box Office Mojo) for the number one movie for the weekend of July 7-9. You get points based on the difference between your guess and the actual opening (whether its higher or lower). You don't have to guess a particular movie, just a dollar amount. Once you've made a guess, you can't change it. Guesses have to be submitted by midnight the Wednesday before the opening. Guesses must be rounded to the nearest million dollars. Results will be cumulative week to week for everyone that continues to play. If you miss a week, you can still play, but you're out of the ongoing game. The ongoing game will reset when there's only one player left.

Please feel free to discuss prospects and speculation- this is highly encouraged. But once you post up a guess, it cannot be changed.

I'll normally post this up on the Monday before the opening weekend, and will update the cumulative scores when the actuals are released (usually Tuesday afternoon).

Minuses: notable franchise fatigue this year in the US, 3rd reset of Spider-man series

Except for superfans, my opinion is no one asked for this, but.... Last in MCU, Guardians 2, opened at 148. Previous, Dr. Strange, opened at 85. I guess there are lots of superfans. Was going to go low, but instead I'll be optimistic and split the difference.

Damn. Missed the deadline. Does this go forever until people quit?

Kyle, we should brainstorm to figure out how this game could morph into something similar to suicide league for football. Maybe you have to be within 40mil of the opening movie the first week, then the second week you have to be within 30mil of that weeks opening movie, etc. If you aren't within the range, you get knocked out. Then you get down to maybe within 5mil and that keeps going until someone loses.

My suggestion would be if people missed a round, like if Zombie wants to play next round, that they'd be given the score of the worst guess of the missed round but more, like 125% of worst guess. So if I have the worst guess and am off by 20, Zombie would be charged 25 points for missing the round.

Though if Bluedevyl or Pheobe or someone wanted to start playing, thanks to El Jefe, they'll probably start round 3 down 100 points.

I'm cool with that too.
