All Time Top 10 Movies
All Time Top 10 Movies
Rules:
1. Provide a list of the top 10 movies, in your opinion, of all time. You can post a work in progress list but please label it as a work in progress, and you must still comply with Rule 2 if you post a work in progress.
2. Your list must be ranked. No "in no particular order" lists and no ties.
3. This is a top ten films of all time. TV movies do not count.
4. Trash talking about others' lists is encouraged.
When a list is finalized, I'll edit this post to reflect everyone's lists.

Re: All Time Top 10 Movies
This is impossible. Can we go by decade first?
Re: All Time Top 10 Movies
I've done this, and it's very hard.
I would like to suggest the corollary to the "No ties" rule: That also means, no lumping movies of a series together. The only exceptions I entertained when we did this at Fantasy Movie League were Lord of the Rings and Kill Bill, because both of those were essentially one big movie filmed largely as a single venture and then chopped up into parts. But no matter how many times we repeated this, we'd still get entries that said, "Harry Potter... I can't pick just one" or "James Bond -- any of them". Your game, your rules. I leave it to you to decide if you want the rule and if so whether or not there are exceptions.
I will work on my own list.

Re: All Time Top 10 Movies
IMO unless a movie was shown in previews as a full movie, parts are not movies. LOTR is not one movie. Kill Bill is debatable, but only for how the original edit reflects the merged film.
I've had a list, usually a top 3 in stone, a top 5 pretty regular, then the other 5 keep moving around. Hasn't really changed in the last 15 years.
Mine is a work in progress, going to try to mix things up, and will star my usual top 3,
1. North by Northwest *
2. Singing in the Rain
3. Sunrise *
4. Finding Nemo
5. The Apartment *
6. Citizen Kane
7. Small Change
8. Casablanca
9. Wayne's World
10. In America
On outside, collecting thoughts: Duck Soup, Young Frankenstein, Eternal Sunshine, Totoro, Inside Out, Tintin, Hoop Dreams, Land of Silence and Darkness, Minority Report, City Lights, Ran, Wild Strawberries, Truman Show, Groundhog Day, Wall-E, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Top Hat
Update 1: switched out Young Frankenstein with Small Change.
Update 2: moved down Casablanca, moved up Finding Nemo.
Update 3: switched Kane and Nemo.

Re: All Time Top 10 Movies
11 Phoebe?
Is this just part 1 of a movie club, where we watch everyone's favorites?
My list used to be much more serious, more morose. In the past 10 years I've definitely leaned more on great comedies and pieces of entertainment. I used to prefer "An American in Paris" over "Singing in the Rain", they both are pretty equal when viewed as a musical but soon realized I didn't much prefer the drama of the first, and really preferred the joy and comedy of the second. Especially when my daughter watched it maybe 50 times last year.
I haven't seen "Some Like it Hot' in years, and wonder if I'll go through the same transformation with "The Apartment" and switch those.

Re: All Time Top 10 Movies
Well, I'll put out my work in progress here... It will be numbered for now, but I don't know that the order will stay the same.
1. Local Hero
2. A River Runs Through It
3. The Princess Bride
4. Carol
5. Blade Runner
6. Summer Wars
7. Spirited Away
8. The Garden of Words
9. Time of Eve
10. 5 Centimeters Per Second
(Yes, that's a lot of anime... And I haven't even seen "Your Name" or "When Marnie Was There" yet, which will probably both knock movies out of my top 10... Not to mention the Steins;Gate movie, which I pre-ordered just the other day...)

Re: All Time Top 10 Movies
Damn... Seven Samurai... Shit... That should probably be there... hmmm.... Can't we make it a "Top 15"? (When I made a post like this on the anime site I am one of the moderators on, I did a top 15 list because 10 is too few and 20 is just excessive... LOL! However, I totally allow clumping of series together in that list, since it is an "Anime Series" list. I get keeping one movie per here, unless they were really meant to be together to begin with and just released separately, with a movie list. Sequels aren't the same as one big movie that was too big to release as one movie. Not many of those exist...)

Re: All Time Top 10 Movies
The only movies that can be put together are The Godfather Part 1 and Part 2 (not 3), Che part 1 and 2, Mockingjay parts 1 and 2, and the two Kill Bills. No LotR or other series. If you think there's one I've overlooked, post and I'll consider it. Oh, and while we're at it:

Re: All Time Top 10 Movies
Official objection for the record: Godfather Part 1 and Part 2 are completely different movies. Part 2 is a sequel. Robert de Niro isn't even in Part 1. Makes zero sense.
Re: All Time Top 10 Movies
Shit talking begins... wow you guys sure like depressing films.
