The only time of the year that I miss cable...

The time of year has arrived when I miss cable TV... Football season. I have pretty much stopped following most sports. I keep track of baseball haphazardly. I have my son to tell me what's happening in hockey. But I try to actually follow football. But without cable TV, I can get every broadcast channel in the area, EXCEPT FOX!

Of course, the team I follow is rarely ON our local Fox station anyway. This week, for example, when the Lions were playing in the late game on Fox, which was the network broadcasting two games nationally, and the local Bears game was the early game, even though the game was taking place only two hours away in Indianapolis and there is a decent chance that there are some Colts fans here in town that might have wanted to see the game as well, the game that our local Fox station had on was the Cowboys vs. the Giants.

What I have settled for in the past few years is watching Redzone coverage on my phone... I can get it for a pretty small amount per month and I can watch pretty much the entire league as they score, or don't score, whenever they are close. However, this Sunday, with only three games going on when the Lions were playing, and the other two games being relatively low scoring in comparison, it almost felt like I got to watch the whole Lions game! It seemed like the default was to go back to the Lions vs Colts after a while, because both teams were pretty much lighting it up. (Especially compared to the Seattle game that had a combined score of under 10 for most of the game.)

Sure, it would be nice to be able to send the Redzone video from my phone to my TV... and I would bet that there is probably a way to do it, but I haven't been able to find that way in previous years... (sigh) So instead, I watch football on my tiny little screen... Maybe I'll get a bigger phone next time I replace it...

Amen. Although I find that I am losing interest in football the way I used to love it. It's too time-consuming, for one, and my kids don't really like it except the little guy, and the more we find out about it the less I want the little guy to play it, so... Maybe Roku is enough. I'm planning to teach him tennis.
