Bad reporting. They meant different expressions in genes.

This article explains both details of the findings and how a misleading interpretation thereof got spread around as fake news. However, agreed that what they found is interesting regardless! So many questions about how our bodies respond to that environment.

Not exactly a fake news, but rather, bad communication by some reporters. At any NASA conferences, you expect space science reporters, but this one was on genetics, by which you would need biology reporters for. So it kinda became a game of telephone in a sense because reporters do not fully understand the jargons, so ending up misreporting. Not exactly fake news where one intentionally mislead vs not fully understand the underlying message.
So yeah, science communication has quite a way to go. I only knew about gene expression bit because I follow a lot of scientists who are very good about checking with other scientists in their appropriate fields.
