Kyle's Award Bait Movie Weekend

Watched four this weekend. My thoughts:
Battle of the Sexes: I actually enjoyed this movie quite a bit. I didn't realize it was a story about Billie Jean King's sexuality, but it made a nice through line for the plot. And Steve Carrel's performance as Bobby Riggs is spot on perfect.
Lady Bird: Really liked this movie. The performances were stellar and the movie was very engaging and compelling. But as much as I liked it, I'm not sure why it's a best picture nominee. While it was really good and cute and fun- I don't think it was a best picture. Still- a high recommend.
The Florida Project: Ugh. So boring. I said to my wife, "This is just one of those 'slice of life' movie like Boyhood- but I hate it." I hated it. So boring. Nothing happens. I guess I'm supposed to watch these "feral" kids do dangerous things and think: "Oh! How cute and worriesome!" But I didn't object to any of the stuff the kids were doing. Just so boring.
Three Billboards: Didn't watch it. We were supposed to watch it, but The Florida Project was such a drag that we decided we needed a sure-fire hit. So we watched Get Out again.
Get Out: Look, y'all. It's my third time watching Get Out. This movie is just so good. And so much better on the repeat viewing. I can't recommend this movie highly enough. For real. This is top five material for 2017.
Annihilation: Okay this doesn't count because it's a 2018 movie. But I watched this in the theater and LOVED it. It's trippy, it's horror, it's sci-fi and it's SO BEAUTIFUL. Performances were amazing. Loved this movie so much.
