The congress needs to severely diminish the power of the president. They need to limit the ability of executive orders and non-congressional authorizations of expenditures and power. To be clear- they absolutely will not do this. But anyone concerned about preserving the democracy in our country needs to ensure that we cannot have another authoritarian try to consolidate power over the country in a single person.

I agree with both parts of your statement. The balance of power needs to be reset. To take just one aspect, military engagement is almost entirely executive branch as there are very few wars, just a bunch of bombings and special forces. There are also too many agencies with too little over sight - they need to undo much of the patriot act.

There also needs to be a rethinking of how nuclear codes are handled. Rather than that being the exclusive purview of the president, that should be handled by a congressional committee of some sort.
