I would like to add to my previous statement something that I had forgotten to share. Sometimes a person who has done this to you will share a cutesy meme on social media about how people who have been friends for long enough turn into family! So I guess I have an answer: she was afraid to have me as a family member. Fair enough. I can only assume that applies to every other case.
