First game, first half, gods watch, doesn't interfere. 2nd half, gods get bored, and starts to cheat.

Expanding on this -- the main idea is to help ease new players into the game, get a feel on how heroes move within the restrictions. Then after n/2 turns, gods become bored, and it's time to introduce god powers, and people will get to see how god powers alter the game.



Hades, it's easy to build a conceit around this concept. First, humans decreed some kind of competition to win over favors of gods. Gods are bemused, but then sometimes during the game, someone comes up with the bragging rights and suddenly Gods become very serious about the game, wanting to win that bragging rights, and will go to any means to cheat all way to Hades and back. Now it's a serious competition for the bragging rights.

See, makes it so that players have one thing to learn at a time when first starting out. Heroes action are simple enough, then once that is covered, focus turns to altering hero boards. Of course subsequent games will turn wilder and wilder as Gods have decided to cheat the first thing into the game.
