Re: What statues need to go

So, as far as I'm concerned, 'down with Columbus.' Sadly, for Italian communities, he's sort of the guy. Ignorance being bliss, after all. Places like Rome, Syracuse, and a host of immigrant destinations have him up there and should really come up with a local personality that actually did something...

Re: Post-Jorgenfist Loot Thread

Just so I don't forget, would it be possible to use some of the dragonskin for Hal's sword? Gives a disarm bonus. and maybe craft a dragonhide shield? They were red dragons?

Bad guys understand the value of mortality; good guys understand it implications, otherwise there'd be lots more dead bad guys.

Re: North Korea's Crimes

The reason this is an issue right now: There was a grand jury convened. This is the only reason. It's why Venezuela, it's why everything. Someone has said in passing, 'a war could save you,' and he'll likely find one. The reason NK rather than anyone else: Smokescreen for China - brilliant but proba...

Re: Post-Jorgenfist Travel/Plans Thread

Ok, let's establish three parameters, one constant (which I think will be unfortunately shortened by the harpy) which is how long are we planning to carve out for travel, work, training, study. A month seems a reasonable max. Lots can happen in a month, but in this time period, a month is sort of no...

Hal already has +2 also. we'll put upgrading his belt slot on the list. Illian or kay might get extra damage, or we sell it.

Re: [GenCon Crew] Games to bring

I'm going to try to bring some games that I haven't played in a long time, UBI, bazaar, twix, richtofen's war, maybe a box full of games I used to like decades ago. amoeba wars is the only one I've seen mentioned here. I'll bring it along just for fun. It was the only game that I recall actually and...

Re: [Deep Thoughts] The Tribe

We love our tribes. They serve at least two evolutionary functions: They allow us to quickly distinguish between us and them. Not inconsequential in the world before trading was invented. They allow us, as they allow other creatures, to react more quickly to patterns than to individuals. The frog re...

Re: North Korea's Crimes

We should be. At any rate N Korea is so controlled, that about a third of its population considers itself active army or reserves. They do this partly because they're the ones who get to eat. It's the extreme example. In China, you can be a secret entrepreneur, maybe make some good idea work, maybe ...

Not sure how far to take this. If I knew this was a high pressure question, I'd consult my kids, who are way better at this than I.

Re: No More Roundup In My Yard, Period

Using the cigarette studies, oh, and the Exxon climate memos, oh, and Thalidomide impacts (which took 12 years, despite direct, clear and provable linkage between a chemical people took on purpose and in high dosages) as our benchmark, I am damn worried about roundup. I am especially damn worried be...

Re: [Deep Thoughts] The Day

Absolutely. There's an Owen Meany sense to it, for me. The important thing isn't when, it's how, and preparation can be key. Owen foresees his end, and spends his whole life preparing to get it right. The girl in the other book, in my view, does it totally wrong. Reach out over the ledge, make the e...

Hey, not sure where this goes. A friend of mine is stranded after a collision with a deer. He was headed from Seattle to Pennsylvania and reached Eastern Montana. Does anybody know someone out there?

Re: [Deep Thoughts] Animal Emotions

Emotion is sort of our awareness of our internal sensations/conditions. We don't have too many sensors that give us access to this, certainly not when we compare the array of external sensors. This might be a good thing; naval gazing being what it is already. New research suggests that emotion is ac...

Re: Post-Lamia Planning - Take 3

So, lemme see if I have this: The runelords were/are all really badass magic users, and their schools roughly corresponded to their vices (which they later spun as virtues). Therefore fightery stuff - new feats, techniques, etc - are unlikely to be part of the library inventory except as curiosities...
