Re: Guns
At the risk of being taken either too seriously, or not seriously enough, I submit that it's like the development of the crossbow. Technology made something artistic and difficult - shooting an animal or an enemy at range with a projectile - easy enough for any oaf. The windlass, the muzzle loader, ...
Re: Seuss Day
Yes, personal favorite. Used to read it to my 12th graders.
Re: Guns
I wanna go back to our comparison with vehicles. Not everyone should drive a truck, or a motorcycle. Different lengths, magazines, etc, all have their theoretical purposes. Training, training, training. A kid, who can't be counted on to do certain things reliably because of his brain structure (assu...

Sounds like Darcs is up to something (as usual)
Re: Guns
Exactly why reasonable gun people need to stay in the conversation.
Hell, cigarettes are good for very little, and we haven't managed to ban them. Even prohibition, which actually happened, didn't last. Neither of those products is mentioned in the Bill of Rights.

Re: Guns
Talk about unreasonable fear.... For what it's worth, I do own and use guns, even in NY, which is trying to be the most restrictive place in the country. Eventually this will go the way of the 'free everything for everybody' movements. The mainstream will find them ridiculous, and won't step up to d...
Re: Guns
This is exactly the flaw in the 'good guy with gun' theory. A classic murder investigation probes for motive, opportunity and means. Address any of them to reduce murders. Make life insurance restrictions, or help insane people, or reduce bullying and alienation, murders go down. Lock your doors, po...
Re: AI Report
One statement in the article is that AI has failed to live up to it's hype. While the article says that's changing, many in the industry disagree (as do I) even Elon Musk (who sells a personal flamethrower just for fun, in case you were worried that he was growing risk averse) wants a ban on lethal ...

Re: We threw paper...
Bound to be tricky when rogue types are mostly armed with scissors. Thought we coordinated and compensated pretty well in an evolving tactical situation. We woke up one golem and got four. Some tough exposure of our archer at our six, but he hung in and proved he could take some damage (thankfully n...
Re: Guns
Of all the teachers I have worked with, I have confidence in the training and disposition of only one. He's definitely someone who would take a bullet for a kid, and he's one of the people I know who consistently hits what he aims at. I also feel that he, sadly, will likely use one of his several gu...
Re: Trump
This worry seems overblown on every level. Who are we afraid of? Nancy Pelosi? She and her faction could take lessons from unified governance from the Italians, and still fail the quiz. It's worth mentioning, it's not her faction that seeks to peer into your bedroom, or prevent you from marrying ano...
Re: Trump
Guaranteed no matter who is in charge: once they control someone's intake entirely, they'll start to add pharmaceuticals, IDK, birth control, anti-depressants, the mind reels. ...Lead? They already do it to a limited extent in military meal plans. (Began with sugar, and controlling mood and activity...

"and if I love you, what business is that of yours?"
We've so wrecked romance with our Romantic ideas (and commercial ones).

Re: Calendar (Summer/Fall 2017)
Bought a golembane scarab. Not terribly expensive, allows detect golem like detect evil, bypasses DR. Thor should get one, and Dwyn, and Kay, and Illian...Wasn't certain it would pay off, but I knew we had run into a lot of golems so far and bet on higher level guys maybe employing them as guardians...
Re: Pence
Two things: There is a distinct difference between having a complex system that's broken, if you will, or at best limping along, and having someone personally driving the machine in such a way as to make sure it never operates properly. Ya, ya, how do you know a politician is lying.....? Given that,...

RE pastor: It absolutely counts as assault. She was underage, ok maybe in Texas it's 14 or something, but she wasn't a voting adult. He had responsibility and trust as leader of the youth ministry. He specifically took advantage of her trust. What he asked her to do was totally over the line. This i...
