Re: Movie Review Thread
That would require me to give the tiniest bit of concern to my physical well-being. I do not. It would also likely require a pretty hefty amount of weight loss and an exercise regime. I won't be doing either. Yes, it's exceedingly stupid on my part. I am, after all, exceedingly stupid in many areas....

Re: What are you watching?
Polar. It's a B, maybe a B-? Great beginning, kind of "eww" middle, and a solid but not outstanding recovery in the last act. Mads is Mads as always, which means he's lovely and amazingly subtle in a way few other actors pull off. It also doesn't hurt that I think the man actually gets bet...

Re: Movie Review Thread
He was a crotchety middle-aged croaker with a sharp as fuck tongue, and basically no filter. I adored him. Then he walked off into the woods and killed himself. Nobody ever knew why. I'm still unclear if he was actually a good doctor, but that's pretty much unimportant. I then went like forever with...

Re: Last err Rise of Skywalker talk (spoilers)
I could see that. The same holds for rpg adventures in the Star Wars universe. Once you throw in the main characters, it brings in a bunch of expectations and limits - I find this in pretty much any licensed rpg. That's kind of my problem with Star Wars in a nutshell. The "excess" materia...

Re: Movie Review Thread
Two years ago, my (now deceased, but not because of this) doc explained my knee situation like this. "In theory, you have some cartilage left. Quantum theory mostly." "So what are my options?" "Spontaneous eruption of a mutant healing factor?" "That good, huh?"...

Re: Last err Rise of Skywalker talk (spoilers)
I'm quickly coming around to the idea that the movies that use the Star Wars setting the best are the ones that are basically other movie types that just happen to be set in Star Wars. Rogue One - WWII SpecOps movie (aka, The Dirty Dozen) Solo - Heist flick (more in the Ocean's style) Mandalorian - ...

Re: What are you watching?
In the Shadow of the Moon. Don't read spoilers. Don't think about it. Just watch it. It's not groundbreaking, it's not some new concept. It's just a really solid murder mystery with some sci-fi elements, packaged in an well-directed movie, with some outstanding acting. Seeing Boyd Holbrook doesn't h...

Re: What are you watching?
So, if you were on the fence about watching the Witcher? You should end up on the side of the fence where you definitely don't watch it. Also, just all the content warnings. All of them. Repeatedly. And then repeat them all like three to six more times. Per episode. It's not a very good show. There'...

I am now infatuated with some man named Patrik who can squat hundreds of kg and move his powerful eyebrows independently, and if you take off your glasses for all you know it's El Jefe: https://youtu.be/SD5wS4OZp3s I couldn't get the level of epic muttonchops that dude is pulling off if my life dep...

Re: Last err Rise of Skywalker talk (spoilers)
If reasonable intelligence was displayed, Finn's whole part would never have had to happen. That would have been really disappointing. It was one of the better stories found in The Last Jedi. Yeah, I'm comfortable saying it. The casino side story was actually pretty great. We can fight over that, i...

Re: Last err Rise of Skywalker talk (spoilers)
I had fun with it, enjoyed it for what it was. This deserves a longer explanation (and I'll get it one sometime after work this week), but it reaffirms my belief that Star Wars makes a great setting, and mostly not-super strong movies. And yes, that includes the original films. So, basically, it's t...

Re: What are you watching?
Yes. Then again, I'm terribly biased. Because I'd tell everybody to watch the show. And then read all the books. And then rewatch the show. And then re-read the books. Repeat forever. Because I fucking love so much about both of them. And I want my nine books and nine seasons, damn it. But that's re...

Re: D&D5e Rebels
Nah, I've got no dog in this fight. I can't really handle PF style anymore, outside of video games. OSR style is probably the best choice for me now, like in SWN. Was mostly just curious how it worked. Thanks for the info.

Re: What are you watching?
This is why other productions need to be taking notes on how The Expanse production handles creatives. Because yes please, way more of this.

Does it use a rest mechanic (short and long rest) like 4E did? If so, what did you think of it?

Re: What are you watching?
The Expanse Season 4, around adapting to the schedule for the shiny new job.
It was fucking awesome, no real surprise. There's an awful lot of shows out there that should be taking notes on how to handle creative teams and showrunning from this crew.

Re: Second Attempt: Pathfinder
Curious on the full PC compliment.
A. ? Sorcerer
B. Dwarf Bard
C. ? Fighter
D. ? Dex Fighter
My GM brain is always interested to figure out how to make a set of characters work, so just looking for more data to do the brain-crunching.

Re: Paying by Card
If I'm tipping at a Starbucks, shouldn't I be tipping at Taco Bell? Jokes aside, I'm really unclear on the difference here. Why would one specific kind of takeout require tipping, but not the rest? It's one thing if some place has one of the tip jars out, and you throw some in. I get that. I'm talki...

Stars Without Number
So, if you didn't manage to wade through my largely unfair, anti-Starfinder rant elsewhere, here's the thing. (And that's understandable, as I mostly ranted at THE JONES.) Go pick up Stars Without Number today, either via the Free version or the paid, Deluxe version . And here's why you should pick ...
