Re: Fatal logical flaws in otherwise good movies
The entire Matrix series is ruined by the idea that humans in any way make good batteries. Cows produce more BTUs. Should have been the Mootrix. I still prefer the idea that the "desert of the real" is actually another layer to the deception. Like a sandbox or firewall for those that aren...

If it's stupid, but works, it's not really stupid.

That today is the tomorrow that some wide-eyed doomsayer said wasn't going to happen?
Re: Trump
It bears remembering that racism is a crime in our society. Sometimes it's legal, as in employment, but more often social. Calling someone a racist is accusing them of a severe infraction. Most people think of racism as the KKK, or avowed white supremacists. But the push to this academic understandi...

How I Met Your Mother: There is no way it took YEARS to tell those kids about the mom that lived just long enough to give birth to them. There would be pictures of that woman in the house. You're assuming that your perception of the story being told is the same as the length the show was on the air...

I'm not a fan of victimless crimes. I'm sort of okay with seatbelt laws, since you can become a projectile in an accident, but not much further than that.

Re: Listener Betrayal 200!
Have you followed the trend in board games to use victory points at the end to figure out the winner? Do you think not being sure who's winning until the end makes the game better, or do you prefer clearly knowing who's in the lead during the game?

Distraction.
Focusing on the trees I didn't plant 20 years ago.
The general want to HAVE done things versus DOING things.
And all of that self-realization seems to not put a dent into my current actions.

Evolution. We're going to evolve into something other than human, stronger, better. And we don't want to avoid it; we want to welcome their arrival! Do we? That sounds hopeful and futurist, but I wonder how the Devisonians and Neanderthals would feel knowing that their DNA is a small part of us, bu...

Re: Dozing Nazis
I can kind of understand wanting to dox the alt right. They've been doing it for a while to feminists. It's a bad thing, but it's getting to where not doing it is disarming yourself.

Isn't that 90% of Twitter, though?
For his movie critiques, I think he wants people to be more science literate, and movies are often the way people are introduced to concepts. He's probably spent some time over the years clearing up misconceptions from movies and has gotten fed up.

Not sure how you'd have irrefutable proof of a negative, but my life wouldn't change much.

I have noticed that gaslighting, projecting, and mansplaining are being used all the damn time for things that amount to mere disagreement. Indeed, I love it when I am told by feminists that I'm mansplaining and gaslighting them, that's a special moment of bafflement every time. The best is when yo...

Did he really think it was morally okay? Or did he know it was morally wrong and just didn't give a damn? Either way, it was illegal, and he he was prosecuted for it. That's a bit different, knowing something is wrong and not giving a damn about it, compared to someone who actually thinks it is mor...

Re: [Deep Thoughts] Red Pill Blue Pill
Morality isn't different for different people? Then why is there a debate about abortion or gay marriage? What about fundamentalist Christians who think gays are violating God's laws? Or taken to extremes, they have a duty to kill gay people for violating God's laws? What about the Islamic fundamen...

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that this started as a question about the Simulation that is being hijacked into a discussion on absolute morality. Oh well. Tahlvin, I would disagree that morality is different for individual people. Our interpretation of morality is different, but if something is wrong it is ...

If ending that life is necessary to save other lives, it is justified. After that, I'm up for discussion. So killing a baby to save two grown-men Nazis? That's justified? If we're going with wacked out hypotheticals, then if 2 Nazis are minding their own business and are set upon by a vicious baby ...

Let me try it this way. A person visits your home for the first time. Despite having no direct information from you, that person will come to the spot you normally associate as a door and knock at the physical location you normally associate with knocking at your door. (Again assuming that person is...
