Explain to me why that was a hit and Debbie Gibson was a star, but Rebecca Black and Friday were ridiculed and shamed mercilessly. Honestly, I can't see that much of a difference.

So, I've successfully avoided "Friday" for 10 years, but today sat down to listen to it. There were points I enjoyed, and points where it is just really really funny. Not her fault, this LOL lyrics were written by her producers, who weren't trying hard. That she sells it all so earnestly in the music video is a kudos to her, and hold on she was only 13? Dang the internet is cruel.

Maybe I have a dirty mind, but everything George Michael sings sounds like he's talking about sex.
Except maybe for Monkey. Maybe.

Any time the solution is "banjo rifle", I'm in 100%.
Re: Deathless
Nah- that's about sex too.

Re: Deathless
I do not remember this song AT ALL. And it's bad. I don't remember the music. I don't remember the lyrics. I definitely don't remember this video or the rap bits.
Full Force had fallen so far from All Cried Out. Poor guys.

Re: Deathless
Better versions of this kinda song exist. But I really liked them circa 1991. Then their 1992 album came out and it didn't compare to the grunge music I was imbibing.
Re: Deathless
1989 #1. Hey, I love Chicago, have seen them in concert a couple times with my wife. But #1 for the entire year?! Really?!
Re: Deathless
Don't feel bad - I consider it a mark of our mutual dignity. The only reason I even know who this person is is that I used to have a friend with her poster hung up in his dorm room and would mock him mercilessly for it. It's the kind of behavior that deserves merciless mocking and I feel like while it may have caused some short-term suffering, he's a better man for it today. He moved on to a Tori Amos obsession and then ended up living with a woman who looks very much like Tori Amos, so he didn't really change deeply but he did find a better outlet for his feelings.
Re: Deathless
Good lord that's a low tier Chicago song. You sure you don't have the list upside down?

1. I never liked this song.
2. I always thought it was done by Guns n Roses, I guess because of rose in the name and the lackluster singing.

Best song so far: My Prerogative
Re: Deathless
That song is Bret Michaels' proudest achievement. I would guess that interviews with him that contain the phrase "When I was writing Every Rose..." far outnumber the ones that don't.
Any time the solution is "banjo rifle", I'm in 100%.
Re: Deathless
We have discovered through this process, the early and mid-80s were good and the late '80s bad, at least in this narrow band of pop music.
Re: Deathless
Yep.
Once again, when people talk about a decade, they are usually talking about only part of it. The early part was quite different, musically, from what cam later.

I was never super into Paula Abdul but I've always enjoyed her music. This is a nice tune to sing along to in the car.

1989 is improving with some solid hits there, yes including Girl You Know It's True, which is great! Still think Janet has the edge.
