I feel like they took the Macarena and gussied it up a bit while removing the element of fun. Was I even on the planet during the 90s? 1997 I'm at least going to bars and might have overheard stuff like this? But I was going to see KFMDM and such, so maybe avoided all pop music? But no because TLC, Aaliyah, Missy etc? It's baffling.

My guess is no Missy until 2002ish. TLC was last year I think and will for sure be back in a year or two.

Yes! They have already been bringing back Bill Withers for commercials but they need to just continue on in that path, whoever they are. Ad people.

One also likes to see the essential samples credited and money paid out to artists accordingly - I know it's not always artist but sometimes it is.

Wow. What did they have against beakers? They were destroying them the whole video.

But again- I'm obsessed with how Posh doesn't sing or really dance. What does she contribute to the band? That's she's the necessary fifth?

Aidan was born in 1998. I expect to not know a lot of these. I don't even know the #1 song of the year.

She does actually sing, and dances as much as you could expect from that bunch. They have various songs and sometimes she has solo lines, and she has a nice voice. I believe she was one of the first members? Earliest? However, not saying she sings wonderfully because I believe they brought in Mel C for the necessary singing support. Between Mel C and Mel B you have singing, and apparently each of the other three is meant to be a hottie of the appropriate hair color and type? They usually dress Posh to cater to the desire for submissive leather clad petite vixen. I don't understand this but there it is. I hate this group 110%. One of their big songs has casually racist lyrics. Etc. Boo. They suck.

Right? I appreciate Wannabe, but other than that, I can't think of another song of theirs that ever did anything for me.

#1 only vaguely remember
#2 was rightly huge, surprised it's not #1. I love the funky and weird music behind their solid vocals. I associate it with Timbaland but obv it was more prevalent.

Trying to fresh ears this, instead of my biases and there's a lot to like. I think this is the best of the three monster hits off this album. Those Mutt Lange-produced background harmonies are good and are held-back from his usual Def Leppard-style ones he throws in.

This is so weird. I forgot that Savage Garden was a thing, much less a group that was everywhere for about six months. Then they winked out of existence.

Janet! Not my favorite chorus but dang the music. That Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and Janet started with the Prince template and got to here in just over a decade is so impressive.

I was wondering if this would happen!!! Sometimes songs appear on two years' lists but rare to get to the top 30 for each. Has this happened before this one?

I know this happens for albums in the 2010s with Adele's 21, which was #1 for two years.

I do believe this is the first time this is happened that a song has populated up in the top 30 for two years in a row.

Oh yeah, it was like up there with White Christmas in sales, right? I'm kinda surprised though that it was a lower mark in the second year, cause usually songs slowly work there way up to #1 and then oversaturate and fall off. In this case it goes up quickly and slowly fades. Eeenteresting.
