Billboard Hot 100 Year End Chart 2022
25. Late Night Talking (Harry Styles)

An ace sing-along. And a song about just talking all night? Yes please. This song gives off the 80s Paul Simon 70s Paul McCartney vibes and I'm hear for it. Simply having a wonderful talking time. 9/10

Billboard Hot 100 Year End Chart 2022
24. We Don't Talk About Bruno (Carolina Gaitan, Mauro Castillo, Adassa, Rhenzy Feliz, Diane Guerrero, Stephanie Beatriz & Encanto Cast)

Sorta wild this was huge but makes sense. First of all, what a lovely danceable beat. Also must be fun for kids to learn by heart. And when everything blends together at the end, that's Lin shooting-his-shot. Also I like how the song completely changes heard the second time, as the film reveals what is truly happening, peeling those layers. 7/1

Billboard Hot 100 Year End Chart 2022
23. Running Up That Hill (Kate Bush)

Like to think I'm hip, but I first remember hearing this in 2017 -- my 80s and classic rock stations never played this. I really liked it at the time, but it was hearing it randomly on the radio in 2020 that it really connected to me. Blows my mind, that I've heard it dozens of times on the radio since, on the 80s station, on the adult contemporary station, on the top 40 station, and on the 'Hot' station. WILD. Good on everyone, including me, getting on board with this as an all time classic. 10/10

22. Titi Me Pregunto (Bad Bunny)

Wish the video didn't have what looks like a little kid smoking, but my rating isn't about the video. The song had me at "Selfie. Say cheese!" <camera sound> what a perfect deployment of the english language here. Also love how it starts as a pop dance banger where he brags about all the girls from all the countries he's loved (Mambo #6?) quickly turns on a phone call from his Titi, his aunt, where the mood turns dark and light as he learns/ is forced to settle down. Bad Bunny, at the very least, undefeated at the switch-up! 10/10

My nephew thought she was singing "Ooma. Ooma-Ooma-Ooma." It's also the best Doja Cat song I've heard.... wait, just realized, could it be... <looks it up> it is! It's afrobeat! I obviously love afrobeat. Gimme that beat all day. 9/10

20. Me Porto Bonito (Bad Bunny & Chencho Corleone)

What I love most about this song is the mbira (or at least it sounds like one of them thumb pianos, the internet is suprisingly quiet on what it is, so it's probably just some synth preset). The rest of the song is pretty great too, though it's not my favorite of the Bad Bunny duets 9/10

Billboard Hot 100 Year End Chart 2022
19. Wasted On You (Morgan Wallen)

Well written well sung, but there's so many other good songs by artists who don't say racists things while drunk.

Here's something I've been thinking about. In the 70s, Elvis Costello used the very bad word while drunk. He said he was purposely being awful to get out of a bad conversation and went too far. Some, like MJ, never forgave him. Many, like Ray Charles (who it was directed at), and pretty much all white people, forgave him. What would have happened today? Would I have given him the benefit of the doubt? I kinda think, no. I could say his apology was somehow more honest or he has shown in the decades since how much of a not-racist he is. Or do I accept his apology simply because I like his music. Maybe? Anyways, not given that benefit to Wallen. Yet. Wonder what'll take. Time? 6/10

Don't know anything about his music, but there's plenty of people who make good music that don't just casually call people "pussy ass n******"- which also indicates that he was comfortable enough with the word that I'm guessing he used it on the regular.

But after this came out "Wallen almost immediately saw a 1,220 percent increase in digital album sales and a 327 percent increase in song sales." So you know, country music has a problem. And since this all happened, he's now "redeemed" himself and is appearing on awards shows and welcomed back into the country music world as though it never happened. Fuck him and fuck you, country music collective. There's so much about this racist sack of shit that disgusts me, but even more so the disgusting people that felt the need to send a message by supporting him.

My kid has a whole lyrics worked out around "Roomba"; at one point a cat is riding on the Roomba which apparently amuses him due to Doja Cat emphasis on cat. I too am amused by this.

Pretty much the only song with a minor swear in it, DAMN!, clean version that s, that I let my kids listen to. Just too joyous to skip because of something so small. And damn they need to grow up. Now. Kidding. Opposite. De-age pelase. I was mixed on this at first but eventually became my most listened to song of 2022. Fun funky music, fun fun lyrics, one of the few artists I allow the use of the B word, because b**** it might be better! 10/10
