Wits and Wagers: Nerd Pride Ebay edition

Post by Eliahad »

Hey, everyone. I would like to play a game. The game works like this.

I am going to find and post a listing and description for an item found on Ebay. I will tell you what I searched, and what the item is. What I will not tell you is the Buy It Now price.

You're going to guess what the Buy it Now price is...or at least get as close as you can without going over. But you're not going to do it publicly.

Depending on how many people want to play, the first 5 - 7 people to respond with their guesses via PM are going to have their answers placed on a table of odds from lowest to highest. (Ranging from "3 to 1" to "6 to 1," don't worry, I'll take care of this part.)

After receiving the guesses, I will post up a table of odds. At that point, EVERYONE will publicly place 2 wager "chips" on the answer(s) that they think are closest to correct without going over. Totally Price is Right Rules here.

After everyone has posted, whoever is correct gets points based on the payout of that particular answer. You may discuss and comment before posting your wagers. Or not. That's on you.

Guessers will always get 2 wager chips each round. Those are free. However, those with extra points can boost those two wager chips with points they have in their personal bank. (You only get the two guesses, but if you have points to spare, you could bet extra points added to each wager chip.)

We play for some indeterminate round count or until we get bored.

Questions? Who is interested in playing?

It would go like this:

I searched "Excalibur Sword" on Ebay and found, "Extremely Rare! Franklin Mint Sword of Excalibur Silver/Gold 24K Plated in Stone."

It used and also modified with Natural Stone.

Extremely Rare! Franklin Mint Sword of Excalibur Silver/Gold 24K Plated in Stone on Display,
Vintage 1988 Retired Franklin Mint Excalibur Sword Forged in Spain of the finest steel, the frame has been modified.

The clear plastic has been removed and replaced with a real piece of natural rock. Laser engraved genuine leather piece cut in the exact shape of the rock and glued on to the frame. The rock has been drilled and attached to the frame with brass decorative screws. Even make it more realistic added some fake moss on the stone. this sword has 24 karat gold and sterling silver electroplating on the pommel and cross-guard along with 12 red crystals: 4 inlaid along each side of the cross-guard as well as 2 on each side as the dragon's eyes. Officially issued by the International Arthurian Society for production only by Franklin Mint, this sword is a retired collectors' item from a limited offering in 1988. It is 43 inches long. The display board with the stone is included.

Please PM me your guesses for the BUY IT NOW price (shipping not included) for this: "Extremely Rare! Franklin Mint Sword of Excalibur Silver/Gold 24K Plated in Stone."?

I have received the guesses from the interested parties.

The choices of betting are, from highest to lowest:

3 to 1 - $349.99
2 to 1 - $179.99
3 to 1 - $150.00
6 to 1 - Lower

You have four choices to choose from, and two wager chips. You can place these two chips on the same guess or separate guesses. Lower means you think everyone overshot the guess.

So the question is, for one "Extremely Rare! Franklin Mint Sword of Excalibur Silver/Gold 24K Plated in Stone." who guessed closest without going over?

Make your Wagers publicly, please!

And! For one "Extremely Rare! Franklin Mint Sword of Excalibur Silver/Gold 24K Plated in Stone." altered by the seller, slightly used condition. The Buy it Now price, no-shipping as of yesterday at lunch time, no take-backsies is.....

$1,500!

Tahlvin gets 3 points!
Mike gets 3 points!
Kyle gets 0 points!

.... And that's how the game is played.

Fudge! My entry was $349. But then I let the low-ball bids influence me. Should have stuck with my gut and not been such a coward.
