The 12 Hour Deathless Thread
Re: The 12 Hour Deathless Thread
Obi Wan is not the best hero of the first movie. In fact, he's not a hero--he's a wise mentor. His role is to impart wisdom and then die to further Luke's hero journey. He's on this list because he is considered the best actor in this film. But in addition to being a great actor, you also have to fulfill the role of hero.
Luke doesn't deserve to be on this list, because he's not that great a hero as written, and no matter what you think of Mark Hamill's career as a whole, in this film, he was not great.
If anyone from this film deserves the title of "best hero", it would be Carrie Fisher as Leia, because she acted the shit out of what she was given AND Leia is a strong character with will and agency who never hesitates to put her own life on the line to save others and defy evil. She's awesome.
But sadly, she's not really the hero of this movie. Luke is. For better or worse, Star Wars was written as a classic hero's journey, and Luke is that hero. So Star Wars just shouldn't be on this list at all.

Any time the solution is "banjo rifle", I'm in 100%.

This is a beautiful verging-on psychedelic print that feels a bit unlike anything else in the set, for better and worse. Original and out of place. It did get me looking at photos of Lake Ashi https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Ashi ... %B1%B1.jpg and now I want to go to there.

More evidence of how screwed up this list is. I don't know whether the reason they have so few women on the list is that they don't know what a hero is, or if they won't know what a hero is until they figure out what a woman is. Maybe both. But white people, they see.

Re: The 12 Hour Deathless Thread
The hero list has 8 women on it, one of whom is played by a male canine actor. The villain list has 16 women, one of whom is played by a special effects alien. They are grossly underrepresented on both lists, but twice as much so on the "hero" list.Phoebe wrote: ↑Thu Mar 10, 2022 4:20 amMore evidence of how screwed up this list is. Nice print. Man did Japanese men really show their butts 150 years ago. I'm the guy on the bow with my arms crossed and hat hiding my head. But what I like best is the beautiful arched Ryogoku Bridge. That it was damaged and replaced with a dull flat bridge is extremely disapointing, like if one replaced a historic canal with a paved road. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ry%C5%8Dg ... ubashi.jpg

I'm more of a Dwayne Johnson man myself, and I don't want to dissuade him from joining the site. But I know it's complicated. If I had to pick a top five of participants honestly I think Dwayne Johnson would be on it. Keep in mind this is coming from a person who downloaded his apps that I could hear his ringtone when I woke up every morning, motivating me. In fact, I was doing a lot better at fitness back then so maybe I should return to it.
