Never seen it, but I tell people I have.
Re: Deathless
Saw it. Didn't like it. I found it mostly tedious. And, for me at least, Sellers scenery chewing turn as Dr. Strangelove was so cartoonishly over the top that the parody carried no real weight. Maybe it was more effective 60 years ago, but to me it comes off as Swift's"A Modest Proposal" except that by the time Strangelove rolls in, they've given up on keeping a straight face.
Not for me.
Not for me.
Any time the solution is "banjo rifle", I'm in 100%.

Nobody's perfect (spoilers)
Ok, originally had this idea for deathless but then made its own thread but now reversing myself and putting it here, as this has proven to be a fun place for countdowns.
I did a jigsaw puzzle in the last few weeks on the 36 Views of Mount Fuji by Hokusai
https://www.cobblehillpuzzles.com/Hokusai-p/80235.htm
It's the first jigsaw puzzle that I ever sought out. I wanted it to exist and I looked it up and it did, and then I bought it.
Anyways, in celebration of finishing it and and after hours of intently looking at these 36 paintings...
Pete's Top 36 36 Views of Mount Fuji by Hokusai #36
Maybe there's more to enjoy here than I can see, but all I'm getting is a lot of people and wood and signs and very little Mount Fuji. I'm not saying that Fuji has to be huge or imposing or the lead focus, there's plenty of great images to follow that don't do that, but this gives me really nothing. The signs look kinda cool, no doubt it'd be nice to visit this location, but otherwise it's just a collection of people, sitting around, except that one shirtless guy who is hitting something with something. A piece of corn with a paint brush? I dunno! Either way, Hokusai is great but sometimes his people are a bit twisted and grotesque. Maybe that's his point, I dunno. I'm not saying an anthropologist won't find the clothing, the hair, the manners, the tasks fascinating. Context might help here, but for now, based on a common folk like me looking at a jigsaw puzzle, this is #36.

Quote used well in the film? Do people quote it in real life? Does it convey something greater than the quote?
Gonna say yes for all of these, 3 for 3, good movie quote!

One of the five or six that has their own wikipedia articles, but it really doesn't say why it's any more noteworthy than the rest. It's fine. I mean, it's better than anything I can do, but there's nothing that either feels dramatic or inspiring or curious. Maybe I should look closer.

I used to live outside Tokyo and could see Mt. fuji from my house. It was always cool.

Re: Deathless
Those two quotes need a non-verbal epilogue whenever repeated in public. "You know, from that movie!" Cultural ubiquity is mostly what makes these work outside the film.
Best Quote so Far: I'm King of the World!
Pete's Top 36 36 Views of Mount Fuji by Hokusai #34
OK! First of all, love the curvature of the horizon. OK, that's last of all too, I don't have much to add, it's a good print of a couple boats. Seems like there's some wind, and uh, they seem to be moving some grass-like substance. Boat lovers may go gaga over the ship design but to me it's not that exciting. Oh, the shades of color in the water -- that's nice.

Re: Deathless
Does anyone quote this anymore? Love the movie but come on, and if you said it in public, people would be confused.
Missed this until now. Mount Fuji surrounded by a mountain-shaped frame, appreciation increased.

Used great in the movie but can I use it outside the movie and it be a hit? I dunno. Maybe it won her the Oscar, but for cultural importance it needs a bit more.

These people-looking-out-from-a-building ones I'm just not a big fan of. I do kinda want to know what the Wizard of Oz is doing to the the right of Fuji. I'm guessing that might be the sunrise or sunset? Costuming is better here (but what do I know) and the people are less contorted. I also assume people like the dark blue of the clothes mimicking the colors of Figi and the pointing hands mimicking the slopes. It's good. It's fine.

YOU KNOW NOTHING, Jon Snow, because some weird dude's BUTT IS HANGING OUT on the left over there! That has to be a naked butt, does it not? GROSS! Aaagggghhh. This is my #36 of the 36 views, from what we have seen so far.
Your #36 was not great either, to be fair - what the HECK was that man doing on the ground, and why are they starving him? It was disturbing.
I like the one with the yellow colors - what makes it great for me are the contrasting modes of creating repetitive textures, like the stones, the groundcover bushes and greenery, the roof tiles, etc. Lovely.
Fully approve of this method of Deathlessing and ALSO want the puzzle.

Nope.
Non.
You non-watchers need to watch this. Don't listen to Mike! It's freaking HILARIOUS including in the hammy over the top scenes.

There's a I like about this. What are they sawing? That looks like hard and rewarding work. The toil is drama. This was easy to assemble in the jigsaw puzzle because there weren't many diagonal rectangles. This only gets docked points for not being pretty. I am fascinated from an anthropological standpoint, but I dunno if it was up on my wall if I'd stare at it for hours. Also, see how it mimics the slope of Mt. Fuji, even though Fuji itself isn't the primary focus? That's gonna happen a lot...
But I may have under-seeded this because i really do find it fascinating. But maybe we're just reaching the section where they all are.

Re: Deathless
Of course you have. We saw it together as kids. Remember, it had that chimp Bonzo that played football, and then when it got to the part where Ronald Reagan says, "Well, there's no rule here that says a monkey CAN'T play football," and I said "Hey! Chimps aren't monkeys!" and at the exact same moment, you said, "Hey! This is just a ripoff of Air Bud!" Remember?
