Btw, I've been playing a game like this for a decade now on the Roku, called Hogoword. here's a photo i shared to twitter in 2011:

Differences
- no one-game-a-day rule -- I like the event-based way this works. Good addition.
- no easy sharing - sharing with the colored boxes is fun, screengrabs not. Good addition.
- your guess has to be word - not only any word, but a word on its list, this makes me contemplate more between guesses, extending the game time but reducing my guess #s. I tried to guess ~"prixy" but it wouldn't let me, and didn't punish me either. Got to use my brain and not just strategies. Good addition.
- only five letter words -- the other app had 3,4, and 5 letter words. This was fun. 3 can be surprisingly difficult but it's fun that way too.

I have never done this before and I cut and pasted it to see what would happen and this is what I got. I guess everybody is trying to guess the same word, So you can't post what your actual guesses were?
So basically mastermind but with words. I love it .

I don't want to give up my complete strategy, but I always start with the same word (many vowels and high frequency letters) and if that's not very helpful, I use a second word with the remaining vowels and high frequency letters. I'm thinking of playing in Hard mode, which requires subsequent words to include identified letters and to include them in their proper places if that's been revealed. Right now I'm playing under those restrictions without actually turning it on, because I'm a scared little baby.

My strategy I always start with the same word. I won't spoil what it is, although I did on twitter, ok it's rents but it's based on the Wheel of Fortune gimme letters.

I usually do a guess that could be right, but when it gets to the point where there's like two guesses left and three potential answers, I will often do a guess that has to be wrong to narrow down my choices.

Eg. if it's _AT. I might guess CUP, if it gives me a green, then I know it's CAT, if it gives me yellow, I know it's PAT, if neither, maybe it's OAT.

So the hard mode is having to guess things you know are proper once you have that information? This would be good for me because that's what I was trying to do and failed due to dumbness and no coffee. Both times I started with the word great for no particular reason apart from it having five different letters that seemed reasonably common. I did not realize there were deeper strategies but now we'll have to think of a good starting word!

I managed to guess a good first word that gave me exactly what I needed. I actually pick a different word every day, but I always pick a word that has five unique letters.

I also think I can guess Kyle's word order.

Absolutely be proud of you! The first two words guessed dictate so much about how the puzzle is going to play out. And you can't know which way they will send you until you guess them!

What he said. On this one, Dave and I obviously hit the same point after the second guess: we know the first two letters, and there's only one vowel left... honestly there was no other reasonable word that would solve it. So while there's definitely skill involved, there's also SO much luck.

"Wordle 219 X" is trending on twitter so knew this would be tough. Complete guess at the end, would not have gotten if misspellings were allowed. Forgot this was a word and realized I never had to spell it or see it in text.

I can't remember what word I put second but the first word was my own name, followed by something that had L and O and N in it, So maybe it was not the big stretch I think it is to get the right answer, but I'm still stoked because the gap between word one and word three was so enormous.

doh! i've luckily caught myself before doing that a few times in the last week but assume that'll happen at some point. I'm both hyper focused and prone to simple mistakes, so that error is right up my alley
