So I spent part of Christmas day watching a couple of the AFI top 100 movies that I have never seen: Citizen Kane and Casablanca. Citizen Kane was just okay, not really my thing, I'd give it 7/10. Casablanca was good, I enjoyed it, I'd give it 9/10.

Twins! I watched Casablanca at 4 in the morning because the kids woke me up but told them they couldn't go downstairs yet. Watched the first half hour of Kane last night because I love audacious opening, here's his death, here's his entire life, ok now here's some newspaper men, ok here's his drunk widow, here's a dark deserted museum for a forgotten Wall Street man, now let's finally meet Kane .. as a child through a window while three adults change his life

I'm very surprised this made a ton of money! I thought thought the TV show was a huge hit in comparison to the film, but I guess #1 all time finale is a bit bigger than the 98th biggest film

Two AFI films

I wonder how many original yet non-critic favs we will get, especially ones that didn't produce sequels...

I guess if you weren't critical favs but scored huge in the box office, there's less stress about selling out. Your stinker is a hit and now they're offering more money for more of the same! Yes Please!

We like to think that stuff like the AFI isn't beholden to popularity but we are already 2/4 so far and 2/2 for original films...

A wild one, a comedy with an intermission. A bunch of cameos that most non film buffs would not notice. It's good but haven't spent time on it in decades -- was sorta a movie that thrived on appearing on TV and if you weren't busy for the rest of the day you'd watch it, but on demand it might flounder.
