Sorry. I didn’t read your post clearly, and I didn’t mean my response with the word Chief. I meant it with offensive terms in general (like people using the terms “squaw” or “wench”), but in response to your post, I see how I miscommunicated that. I genuinely don’t know if Chief is offensive.Phoebe wrote: ↑Sun Dec 19, 2021 10:23 amI would actually like to know why because my husband uses this term and if it's something that could or should be perceived as racist he should know that. I assume that the racism comes from application of the word to the chief of a tribe? But do people think of that as the primary sense of the word so that it's always implicated when you use it? I don't think of that word as associated with any particular group of people, or if I had to pick it would be European? I don't know. If I am missing something I really do want to know. There's only two people I call by that word fairly often and both of them have the title, but otherwise I don't use it.Kyle wrote: ↑Sat Dec 18, 2021 3:32 pmI disagree. Deathless
Re: Deathless
Re: Deathless
Lol, now you have me wondering where the word wench comes from! It occurs to me I don't truly know what it means.
I think the bots are not actually trying to get us to click on any of those links to purchase pharmaceuticals, but it's just that they have become intelligent and are trying to communicate with us, but they don't know how. They know that this is important somehow: "hair asymptomatic prongs drunk generalized unrevealing". Also "eyebrows". Google has chosen to display for me at the top of my news feed or whatever you would call it - the automatic links to a huge list of s*** and "news" that your phone decides to give you on the Google home screen - an article from the New York Times purporting to explain why older women grow chin hairs. So you know that it's doing this because I complained on this very website about having grown one such hair and plucking it out. I have not seen any since then, thankfully, and can only imagine such hairs are caused by the hormonal tumult of menopause, which is like surfing in those 50 ft waves off the coast of Portugal. I don't want to read the New York Times to find out because I think they're a bad outlet. But the important thing is that either my phone or Google itself, or some intelligent entity living somewhere in the ether behind all of these things, has not just chosen to show me this article one time right after it came out, but has repeatedly replaced it at the top of the newsfeed again and again each day. My husband has just said it's because the AI looks through my phone camera and sees my chin hair, but I plucked that chin hair out a long time ago MF and I will fight you. The phone did not see me pluck out the chin hair you monster. Of course it knows I'm worried about it! Rage quit.

In the US Air Force I was a Crew Chief on F-15s...The grease monkey who took care of the planes and waved his arms around telling the plilot which way to go. The pilots and everyone else called us "chief" and it is just something normal to me, but I am a living fossil that does not adapt well socially so there's that.Kyle wrote: ↑Sun Dec 19, 2021 1:23 pmSorry. West Side Story - 8/10 - docked points for obvious outdatedness, but the excitement of the singing/dancing/costumes/filming/editing is undeniable. The new one is pretty great!
Lord of the Rings - 7/10 - fine but it's been a while
Intolerance - 6/10 - a yawn but it's been a while
Rear Window - 10/10 - masterpiece, Hitchcock was some kind of master at the genre of suspense.
Streetcar - 9/10 - great acting but never in the mood to revisit
It Happened One Night - 10/10 masterpiece, one of the great romantic comedies.
Shane - 6/10 - fine - but only saw once and it's been a while
The Philidelphia Story - 8/10 great been a while
Midnight Cowboy - 9/10 - great, been a while
Bonnie and Clyde - 9/10 - awesome, been a while
King Kong - 9/10 - awesome, been a while

Dr. Strangelove - 10/10 masterpiece, #39 is about where it'd land on my list
Treasure of the Siera Madre - 8/10 great, been a while
Best Years of Our Lives - 9/10 awesome, been a while
Bridge on the River Kwai - 9/10 awesome, been a while

Tahlvin You're killing me with these never seen its!!!!!!!!!!!!! You need to drop everything you're doing at this very moment and watch this movie. Don't wait because an asteroid could hit or something and then you wouldn't have seen this movie in your lifetime. You've got to get this fixed immediately.
I don't know for sure if this is my number one movie but it's definitely close to number one. All time. And have the tissues ready both for laughing and crying.

Mr Smith - 9/10 fantasy where people do the right thing in Washington. Now normally used as politicians' answer to "what is your favorite film" so they sound like they are Mr. Smiths when they are actually Taylors or Paines

Re: Deathless
Dude- what's crazy is that I remember watching it the first time (and on a second viewing) and having my mind blown that it was Robert Duvall. And now I haven't seen it in 20 years, and in my brain I made it Robert Redford. I can see Robert Redford as Boo Radley.
Reality is what I make of it.
