To be fair, many people start that heardle song on the radio past the point you get here. This is a little brutal for radio listeners sometimes. However, I have come across several I don't know and have never heard. It's interesting how well we can tell the difference between "have heard it" and "totally alien", even if you don't recall the song at first. It makes you wonder if people who work on music and sample things all the time get to the point where they recognize nearly everything and have stored it somewhere. It's also weird to me how vast those song storage areas are. Do we store other sensory records in a similar level of detail? Does it vary by person? Like I'm assuming Eli or Pat have a profound catalog of music tucked away that we can't even imagine because they spend so much time listening to this different range of inputs. As much as I listen to music, I don't have it on for most of my workday - not by choice because I try when I am able. Or if it's just background music, is it going in like these songs have? Most of the ones I recognize here, I've heard many times while paying attention, not just backdrop.

Yah, I'm surprised how much songs are stuck in my head yet so much other stuff goes in and out and i never retain. My kids are getting into old episodes of Clarissa Explains it All and boy did my brain and dopamine do a number when I heard that theme song for the first time in over 25 years. na na nanana, all right all right!

I tried your framed thing and it didn't go well. My first guess was Splash, like the one about the mermaid, and then I think I did escape from New York and a bunch of other stuff that wasn't right before finally landing on it. Lesson: only guess movies that are actually in the list of guesses.

I don't know but when I entered the word Splash, it gave me some other title with that word, and in frustration I just entered it and what do you know? Wrong!

Should have got this in 1 or 2. Mistook the song then thought it was a sample of the mistook song so figured it was hopeless, then realized my mistake when the song stayed the same.

Nice! I was lucky with the global because I guessed a country that was two over, and the only way to make that happen is if the alternative choice was next door rather than the right answer. Sounds weird when this is explained but I think it will make sense to you?

I think I gotcha, though I have a hard time figuring out closeness based on color, like it hits deep red and I think I'm close but then there's deep deep red!

Is it too spoilery for me to comment in the following way? I am very, very tired of the BS narratives around this subject from the right when, as you see, some facts might benefit that discussion! Related, adjacent: I also feel like it should be an automatic qualification for a spacex one-way mission to Mars if someone claims that the reason we have high gas prices is because "the XL was shut down". People talk about IQ tests for voting (which I think is a vile idea) but could this be a one-question test? Maybe.

Yah, I hope the irritation with Factle is short-lived, but I can see how it's setup can get annoying. A top 5 is more interesting than ranking those top 5, and it's not as intuitive as boggle-ing a five letter word.
