Oh... shit. Then we are different now. I understand Phoebe's question.
I will keep going, because I like the game, but that takes out part of the fun. I'm sad.
My word was AGORA.

Re: Daily Wordle Results
Checked twitter for the two words, it seems the word was changed this morning, may have been an editorial decision. Seems if you were diverted to nytimes, you get the new word, if you got the old website url, you got the old word. So, the nytimes agreed with Mike's opinion of the word.

Re: Daily Wordle Results
CONFIRMED the NYT ruined WORDLE the same way they f up everything else: making "smart editorial choices" like replacing one perfectly good word with another because they're too stupid to get it and decide everybody else must be the same level of stupid. Well that's not really fair: they also ruin things with false equivalence and making up facts that aren't real, but in this case it's editorial stupidity.

Re: Daily Wordle Results
If the NYT decision was to nix the word AGORA, then I support that. I wouldn't think that's a standalone word- like Mike said.
Re: Daily Wordle Results
That's the impression I got, and I totally agree with the decision. I called it a bullshit word before I knew they pulled it.
And I STILL got it in three, motherfuckers!

Re: Daily Wordle Results
You have the proper ultimate attitude about the whole business. Nevertheless. British people know the f****** word agora and those are the proper standards by which we should be judging the word choices of the puzzle, so yes, this is one way the nyt has ruined things by substituting its own weak-ass judgment for what was already good. If you don't think people know the word agora, that's just the first step to understanding a whole set of multiple interrelated problems.
Re: Daily Wordle Results
Nah. That's whack.
Re: Daily Wordle Results
I am afraid this terrible obscure word "whack" is lost on someone of my limited experience and imagination. If only the New York times would erase it from the world!
Re: Daily Wordle Results
So you are of the opinion that British English is superior to American English?Phoebe wrote: ↑Wed Feb 16, 2022 3:11 pm You have the proper ultimate attitude about the whole business. Nevertheless. Re: Daily Wordle Results
You can see what happened as soon as the New York times tried to "americanize" this British puzzle: they felt like they had to dumb it down and they took it upon themselves to do so. It's not just that I'm outraged because we might need to have things dumbed down for the American audience, or because the New York times considers itself the appropriate arbiter of when and whether things need to be dumbed down (despite printing factually incorrect and extraordinarily biased b******* all the time while drunk on the pretense that it is some kind of superior news source), but because I would have got this word in two without question on that day.
Re: Daily Wordle Results
I dunno, the maker was originally from Wales but lives in Brooklyn now, sold it to the times partly because he liked their puzzles and thought it was a good fit (also money) and here's an article complaining that the puzzle has gotten harder and the ny times is to blame

Re: Daily Wordle Results
With the octordle I find I need the full range of guesses every time. This is the first one where I'm worried that I might not actually get it in the number of guesses available. Because even if you do seven out of eight really efficiently, you're still burning seven of your guesses just to achieve those, and they usually have a few with similar letters, so you help yourself on those but nothing good is happening on the others. I like the challenge of it. One thing I don't like about it is the number of stupid slangy words I've come across in just a few efforts. I don't like having to think to myself, does a dumb word like that even count? Then it does, so your mind is populated by a bunch of other dumb things you can do by sticking a y on, etc, that probably shouldn't be included.
Re: Daily Wordle Results
My quordle strategy this time was to focus my guess on the word with the least known letters. But I got so stuck on the bottom left, couldn't figure out any word that worked, that I had to abandon it. Does anyone else do similar?
