I have become some kind of base, Gollum-like creature who shrieks and howls and taunts its enemies in victory. I was so seized with hubris over my answer that I almost showed it to my husband with the words still revealed, thus spoiling the joy of later comparison. He beats me at so many games y'all, and after so much gnashing of teeth and loud talking! Muahahahahaaaaaaaa I will be an insufferable old lady, even more than today.

Lol this is the best: if my primary competitor does not achieve this results I will be able to lord yours over him as well hahaha, oh, that is too funny - using voice to text and right where it says hahaha I was actually cackling like a fool!
I might actually drive him to create an account and post his results, because he was annoyed that I was sharing mine here and that we had a whole group of it going. He doesn't want to engage with the online world at all except through his band of Brothers that play their team video game together, but he's going to be very unhappy when my daughters and I trounce him in wordle. What to do?

Re: Daily Wordle Results
MY average is 4.28. But 4 is my median and my mode. So I'm going with median as the only proper measure of your skill at this game.
I reserve the right to change my mind though if my average is ever the better of the two
Any time the solution is "banjo rifle", I'm in 100%.
Re: Daily Wordle Results
And now I need to go do math, thanks, Mike.
Re: Daily Wordle Results
Of 20 games played.
20/20
Longest streak 16 (took a break in the middle)
Mean - 3.9
Mode - 3
Median - 4

That's why I picked median. I think we're all tied.

Re: Daily Wordle Results
Wow, sorry dude. Apparently your median is "not applicable". Better luck next time. Maybe with practice.

Re: Daily Wordle Results
The only proper measure of your skill is whether one day you made a tremendous guess and obviously all of the guesswork should be chalked up to your own skill and insight. Having achieved this pinnacle you are a master and need go no further into the numbers.
That said, my husband did today's in four when I did it in two, and so that's another good way we can measure who is smarter and better. Obviously I am twice as smart and twice as good. The numbers don't lie.

Re: Daily Wordle Results
I mean... look. You can all SAY what your stats are. Or you can SHOW what your stats are. I chose to show mine.
But I don't actually know the difference between mean, mode and median, so I don't know if my stats are any good or not. Probably not.

This logic is unassailable and, without doubt, 100% true.Phoebe wrote: ↑Wed Feb 02, 2022 3:08 pm The only proper measure of your skill is whether one day you made a tremendous guess and obviously all of the guesswork should be chalked up to your own skill and insight. Also- I got today's in two as well.

Re: Daily Wordle Results
I'm kicking myself, because on guess two, the correct answer was the first word I came up with, and then I over thought it and said, "No Mike, go look for ALL available options and see which one sounds most like a Wordle answer." So I did. And I was wrong.
Not that I'm complaining about a 3 for today... but it could a been even better. I've never gotten it in 2 before.

Re: Daily Wordle Results
I've gotten it in two three times. But I don't count one of them because when I woke up I opened facebook and someone had posted their results with the comment "Worst. Word. Ever." So I thought, "Hmmm. I bet it's MOIST." I should have guessed it, but I used my regular starter, saw that I three and thought, "Fuck. It's MOIST."

Re: Daily Wordle Results
A wordle word seems to be either cheeky, like moist, or one that I know but I have never written down in my entire life, like knoll. Today was knolly, at least for me.
Probably why I've changed my starter word, ole reliable, rents, because I feel that will never be the right answer. Instead, as a tribute to this group (and it's still has good letters), it's nerds.

Re: Daily Wordle Results
Nice!
I totally agree with your analysis of what most Wordle words are. Thank you for helping define that for me.
My starting word is orate, which has an outside chance of being that second type of word. A couple weeks ago, I pasted all the previous Wordle words into a spreadsheet that told me that the letters e, a, r, t, and o appear in more puzzles than any others. Therefore, orate.
Next, I suspect that whoever is curating the Wordle list is less likely to use the same letters two days in a row. Which may support the idea of choosing a starting word that doesn't use any of the previous day's consonants (for example). The analysis is probably too complicated for me, so I won't actually do it, but it keeps knocking around in my brain.

Re: Daily Wordle Results
By the way, I fully recognize the the above analysis is exactly the sort of thing that keeps me consistently at 4 guesses. Good logic keep me from going over that too often, but lack of intuition keeps me from doing better as well.
