I realize that this is probably a hopeless idea but I can't help but feel quixotic this week. I'm in a regular gaming group but I miss pbp games.
I would like to start a new game that is GMless and ruleless - just interactive fiction. I think we're all mature enough to play nice without a boss. If someone's post has outcomes that need to be settled, then the next poster does it. Or, we can have rules if you prefer. I have two ideas and they are both structured so people can disappear for a while without the game grinding to a halt. You can switch characters or have multiple characters if you with. No mandatory post rate or forced waiting for others.
Ideas (both vague to give other people rooms to make their mark):
Bubbles - Dreams exist in a multitude of pocket planes, some call them dream bubbles. Occasionally dream bubbles merge or a bubble will pop and it's residue will affect nearby dreams. This has been happening more often recently for reasons yet to be determined. All characters are characters in dreams - either the dreamer, side characters, or characters that exist independently of individual dreams who surf their life from one dream to the next, adapting to the extreme changes. Characters might disappear or go static for a while if their dreamer wakes up or their mind is pulled into a nearby bubble.
Complaints - Most posts are letters, either to other players, other NPCs , or people in power. Most letters have a complaint that things are getting worse. Maybe people meet on occasion so they can describe each other in their letter or give differing views on events but maybe some characters complain on their own the whole time - whatever works for you. I don't have any idea what's getting worse, right now.
Beyond one of these basic structures, I would propose that we roll up a new world as a group to play in.
Any interest?
