Old news but I heard the final word on what the cause of death for Bob Saget was. He evidently fell and hit the back of his head, didn't think it was as serious as it was, and died of a brain hemorrhage of some sort, as well as a skull fracture. So, basically, the same thing that killed Natasha Richardson (Liam Neeson's wife and the actress who headlined the movie version of The Handmaid's Tale), except he fell in his hotel room and not on a ski slope.

You might wonder how he could misjudge the severity of a skull fracture so badly, but it is not that uncommon evidently. My son told my daughter and me about the autopsy results and said he was surprised that he didn't call anyone about hitting his head that hard but my daughter, who had recently suffered a minor concussion by hitting herself in the head with a frying pan (she's the one who has been having double vision problems for the past several months and has really bad depth perception problems because of it... so she has issues like that sometimes) said that she totally understood. She said that he probably blacked out briefly from the pain but didn't realize that he had, which she is pretty sure she did, because she thought she had hit herself in the temple area, but when she went to the doctor, they found the lump on her skull a couple of inches behind her temple. She hadn't realized it was there. It wasn't small. The only reason she went to the doctor, HOURS later, was that she was in the bathroom and noticed that her pupils were two different sizes and thought... "That's not right!" She then showed her eyes to me, I verified that, yes, her pupils looked like they were two different sizes, and we both agreed that it was one of those things they check for people who are in shock or something so we called her mom (a nurse), who is currently living with her mother who has cancer (who has moved to our town luckily). She came over to take her to the doctor and it turned out that she had a concussion. So she was certain that he could have fallen, hit his head, and not understood how bad it was after briefly being out cold but not realizing it because he was alone at the time.

Moral of the story: Don't hit your head by yourself?

I heard once that he said "jiff", but that he later came to accept either pronunciation as language and usage had evolved.

I say "jif" because I believe in language creationism.

The shooter was opposed to "a specific group that he thought Abe was connected to". Maddeningly vague.

Abe was still an elected representative, if I understand correctly, and as former PM, I would suspect he still had considerable influence.

The Abe family has always held prominent positions in Japanese government, going back to Abe's grandfather, who was also prime minister. They're the Kennedys of Japan.

I saw this but then later I saw that she supposedly died by falling down the stairs, or by trying and failing to go up them and then collapsing at the bottom of the stairs?
I find that... unlikely in an otherwise ambulatory 73 year old. But unlikely things happen every day.

I read she had a heart attack and fell down the stairs.

Re: RIP

Last I saw:

According to the coroner, despite initial rumors of heart failure, her death was ruled an accident. Cause of death: blunt force trauma to the head, likely as the result of a fall down the stairs

According to TikTok, it's extremely suspicious that Ivana died right before Trump and his children were scheduled to testify in the criminal probe being conducted by SDNY. A circumstance that seems remarkably similar to the time in 1984 when Trump was facing RICO charges related to Trump Taj Mahal and Trump Hotel & Casino, but before he had to testify, three of the top Trump casino execs died in a helicopter crash, thus effectively delaying the trial well into the 90s. This situation is even more suspicious when you find out that Trump was supposed to be on that helicopter himself, but cancelled at the last minute, because he was "too busy to leave New York." According to TikTok.

But then you do some looking, and it turns out the helicopter crash actually took place in 1989, and in that case the "RICO charges" in question would have been allegations that Trump helped alleged mobster Robert Hopkins launder about $200,000 through the purchase of two apartments in Trump Tower. But the charges against Trump were dropped without even getting a case number well before the crash, right after Trump promised to raise money for then-US-Attorney Rudy Giuliani's mayoral election campaign–should Rudy choose to run. The point being that the case against Trump was (allegedly) settled with good old fashioned bribery, and not murder.

Also, the whole bit about Trump being scheduled to be on that helicopter? That was something the man completely made up to put himself close to the action. Same as when he tells stories of being on the ground at 9/11 to direct cleanup efforts.

So maybe Epstein really DID kill himself.

I successfully suggested to my brother the movie night of documentaries: Apollo 11 followed by Summer of Soul. Both take place in July 1969 and both are explicitly and implicitly in conversation with each other. Apollo 11, documenting a monumental human achievement. Summer of Soul, documenting an exciting cultural festival during a turbulent year. Both are wonderful. Summer of Soul even spends a bit of time talking about the moon landing, mainly how irrelevant it was to the Harlem community. It's a great one-two punch. She's not mentioned in either, but couldn't help but think about Nichelle Nichols, who was instrumental in encouraging women and minorities, nearly invisible in "Apollo 11" and front-and-center in "Summer of Soul", and NASA to come together and move things forward. Because of her actions, her character became no longer a utopian fantasy of progressive Gene Roddenberry but a clear reality. Centuries from now, there will be people like Nichelle Nichols flying in space, and.. just spit-balling here, it's possible Apollo 11's achievement may look more like Columbus landing in America, important for history but deeply problematic. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Re: RIP

Posted: Tue Aug 02, 2022 7:57 pm
by Eliahad
It won't look more like Columbus. While NASA may have been operating within the social norms of its time, which were decidedly racist... NASA did not go to the moon and then systematically start destroying the people and cultures that lived there.
